Now the Ephraimites asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight Midian?” And they challenged him vigorously.

The men of Ephraim asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you ask us to help you when you went out to fight against Midian?” In anger they challenged Gideon.

Then the men of Ephraim said to him,“ What is this that you have done to us, not to call us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they accused him fiercely.

Then the people of Ephraim asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us this way? Why didn’t you send for us when you first went out to fight the Midianites?” And they argued heatedly with Gideon.

The men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us, not calling us when you went to fight against the Midianites?” And they argued with him violently.

Then the men of Ephraim said to Gideon,“ What is this thing that you have done to us, not calling upon us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they quarreled with him vehemently.

Now the men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us by not calling us when you went to fight with the Midianites?” And they reprimanded him sharply.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him sharply.

以色列众人都来见王，问王说：“我们的兄弟犹大人为什么把你偷去了，把王和王的家眷接过约旦河呢？属大卫的人不都一样是他的人民吗？”

我看见各样的劳碌和各样精巧的工作，都是出于人与人彼此的竞争。这也是虚空，也是捕风。

烦恼杀死愚昧人，激情害死愚蒙人。

以法莲人聚集起来，过河到了撒分，对耶弗他说：“你过去攻打亚扪人的时候，为什么没有召我们与你同去呢？我们要用火烧掉你和你的房屋。”耶弗他对他们说：“我和我的人民跟亚扪人激烈争战的时候，我曾经呼求你们，你们却没有来救我们脱离他们的手。我见你们不来拯救我，我就拚命上去攻击亚扪人，耶和华就把他们交在我的手里。你们今日为什么上我这里来攻打我呢？”于是耶弗他召集了基列所有的人，与以法莲人争战；基列人击杀了以法莲人，因为以法莲人曾经说过：“你们基列人在以法莲和玛拿西中间，不过是以法莲逃亡的人罢了。”基列人占领约旦河的各渡口，不容以法莲人过去。如果以法莲逃亡的人说：“让我过去吧。”基列人就问他：“你是以法莲人吗？”如果他说：“不是。”基列人就对他说：“请说‘示播列’。”以法莲人因为发不出准确的字音，就说成“西播列”；基列人就把他捉住，在约旦河的渡口那里杀了；那时以法莲人死了四万二千人。

圣经说：“神爱他那安置在我们里面的灵，爱到嫉妒的地步”（或译：“神安置在我们里面的灵，爱到嫉妒的地步”），你们想这话是徒然的吗？但神所赐的恩更大；所以圣经上说：“神对抗骄傲的人，赐恩给谦卑的人。”
