那時，以色列全地找不到一個鐵匠，因為非利士人說：「恐怕希伯來人製造刀槍。」以色列眾人要磨鋤、犁、斧、鏟，就各自下到非利士人那裏去磨。磨鋤或犁的價錢是三分之二舍客勒，磨斧或修整刺棒的價錢是三分之一舍客勒。所以到了戰爭的日子，所有跟隨掃羅和約拿單的百姓找不到一個手裏有刀有槍的，惟掃羅和他兒子約拿單有。

以色列人呼求耶和華，因為耶賓王有鐵的戰車九百輛，並且殘酷欺壓以色列人二十年。
