When you ascended on high, you took many captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious— that you, Lord God, might dwell there.

Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

This is why it says:“ When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”

Nations will take them and bring them to their own place. And Israel will take possession of the nations and make them male and female servants in the Lord’s land. They will make captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors.

This is why it is said:“ Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

At this I awoke and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant to me.

and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Can plunder be taken from warriors, or captives be rescued from the fierce?But this is what the Lord says:“ Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save.I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine.
