那時約書亞轉回了來，攻取夏瑣，用刀擊殺了夏瑣王；因為夏瑣在這列國中素來是做首領。以色列人用刀擊殺了城中一切人口，將他們盡行殺滅歸神；凡有氣息的沒有留下一個；也用火焚燒夏瑣。

因為沒有可償還的，主人就發命令叫他把自己、連妻子帶兒女都賣了做奴僕，並賣所有的一切、來償還。

永恆主這麼說：你們母親的離婚書、我用來送她走的證件、在哪裏呢？或是說：哪一個是我的債主，我把你們賣給他呢？看哪，你們被賣、是因你們的罪孽；你們的母親被送走、是因你們的過犯。

永恆主向以色列人發怒，就把他們交在搶掠的人手中，這些人就搶擄他們；他又把他們交付於他們四圍的仇敵手中，以致他們在仇敵面前再也站不住。無論他們出軍到哪裏去，永恆主的手總是加害他們，正如永恆主所說過的，又如永恆主向他們所起誓過的；他們便非常困苦。
