当时，约书亚转回夺了夏琐，用刀击杀夏琐王。（素来夏琐在这诸国中是为首的。）以色列人用刀击杀城中的人口，将他们尽行杀灭；凡有气息的没有留下一个。约书亚又用火焚烧夏琐。

因为他没有什么偿还之物，主人吩咐把他和他妻子儿女，并一切所有的都卖了偿还。

耶和华如此说：“我休你们的母亲，休书在哪里呢？我将你们卖给我哪一个债主呢？你们被卖，是因你们的罪孽；你们的母亲被休，是因你们的过犯。

耶和华的怒气向以色列人发作，就把他们交在抢夺他们的人手中，又将他们付与四围仇敌的手中，甚至他们在仇敌面前再不能站立得住。他们无论往何处去，耶和华都以灾祸攻击他们，正如耶和华所说的话，又如耶和华向他们所起的誓；他们便极其困苦。
