他們便轉身，要進基比亞去過夜；他們去就坐在城內的廣場上，也沒有人接他們到家裏去過夜。忽有一個老年人野外作工晚上回來；那人原是屬於以法蓮山地的；他寄居在基比亞；而那地方的人卻是便雅憫人。老年人一舉目，看見那旅行人在城內的廣場上，就說：『你要往哪裏去？你從哪裏來？』他對他說：『我們從猶大、伯利恆過來、要到以法蓮山地的儘邊；我原是那裏的人；我到了猶大、伯利恆；現在要回家去，也沒有人接我進他的家。其實我有禾藁、有糧草、可以餵我們的驢，也有餅和酒可以給我和使女、以及跟隨僕人的僮僕喫，一無所缺。』老年人說：『你安心好啦；你所缺的、只由我供給好啦；可別在廣場上過夜啊。』就領他到家裏，餵上驢；他們就洗腳喫喝。他們心裏正暢快的時候，忽有城裏的人一些無賴子、把房子圍住，連連敲門，對房主老人說：『把進你家那個人帶出來，我們要和他交合。』那房主人出來見他們，對他們說：『弟兄們，千萬不可，請別作壞事；這人既進了我家，你們就不可行這醜事。看哪，有我的女兒、還是處女，並有這人的妾；我這就將她們領出來，讓你們玷辱她們；你們看怎麼好、就怎麼作好啦；對這人呢、你們卻不可行這醜事。』那些人卻不情願聽他；那人就把妾抓住，推出外邊去給他們；他們便和她交合，終夜作弄她、直到早晨、日色昇現的時候、才放她走。天快亮時候，婦人來到主所投宿的人的住宅門口，就仆倒在地上、直到天亮。早晨、她主人起來，開了房門，出去要走路；不料那婦人、他的妾、竟在房門口仆倒着呢，兩手搭在門檻上。他對婦人說：『起來，我們走吧！』卻沒有回答。那人便將她馱在驢上，起身往自己地方去了。
