Phinehas was serving as priest at the ark. He was the son of Eleazar. Eleazar was the son of Aaron. The Israelites asked,“ Should we go up again to fight against the men of Benjamin? They are our fellow Israelites.” The Lord answered,“ Go. Tomorrow I will hand them over to you.”

That same night, Yahweh said to him,“ Arise, go down into the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.

For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in Yahweh’s name, him and his sons forever.

Eleazar the son of Aaron died. They buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill country of Ephraim.

At that time Yahweh set apart the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, to stand before Yahweh to minister to him, and to bless in his name, to this day.

When Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them well.Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the children of Reuben, to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh,“ Today we know that Yahweh is among us, because you have not committed this trespass against Yahweh. Now you have delivered the children of Israel out of Yahweh’s hand.”Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.

Then David inquired of Yahweh yet again. Yahweh answered him, and said,“ Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.Saul was told that David had come to Keilah. Saul said,“ God has delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars.”Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod here.”Then David said,“ O Yahweh, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Yahweh, the God of Israel, I beg you, tell your servant.” Yahweh said,“ He will come down.”Then David said,“ Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” Yahweh said,“ They will deliver you up.”

You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.’”

Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Yahweh said,“ Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”

Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God’s ark.David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah, to this day.David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said,“ How could Yahweh’s ark come to me?”So David would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in David’s city; but David carried it aside into Obed- Edom the Gittite’s house.Yahweh’s ark remained in Obed- Edom the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed- Edom and all his house.King David was told,“ Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed- Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark.” So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed- Edom into David’s city with joy.

Joshua said,“ Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!

The children of Israel sent to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half- tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest.

David inquired of Yahweh, saying,“ If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them?” He answered him,“ Pursue; for you will surely overtake them, and will without fail recover all.”

David inquired of Yahweh, saying,“ Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” Yahweh said to David,“ Go up; for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand.”David came to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there. Then he said,“ Yahweh has broken my enemies before me, like the breach of waters.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.They left their images there; and David and his men took them away.The Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.When David inquired of Yahweh, he said,“ You shall not go up. Circle around behind them, and attack them in front of the mulberry trees.When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then stir yourself up; for then Yahweh has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”

Saul asked counsel of God,“ Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.

When Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the middle of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand.He went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stopped among the children of Israel.Those who died by the plague were twenty- four thousand.Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,“ Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn’t consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.Therefore say,‘ Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace.It shall be to him, and to his offspring after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.’”

They set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.
