Phinehas was serving as priest at the ark. He was the son of Eleazar. Eleazar was the son of Aaron. The Israelites asked,“ Should we go up again to fight against the men of Benjamin? They are our fellow Israelites.” The Lord answered,“ Go. Tomorrow I will hand them over to you.”

and Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron was the priest.) The Israelites asked the Lord,“ Should we fight against our relatives from Benjamin again, or should we stop?” The Lord said,“ Go! Tomorrow I will hand them over to you.”

and Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, was serving before it. The Israelites asked,“ Should we again fight against our brothers the Benjaminites or should we stop?” The LORD answered,“ Fight, because I will hand them over to you tomorrow.”

and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, Aaron’s son, stood before it to minister in those days), saying,“ Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of my brother Benjamin, or shall I stop?” And the Lord said,“ Go up, for tomorrow I will hand them over to you.”

During that night the Lord said to Gideon,“ Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands.

for the Lord your God has chosen them and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister in the Lord’s name always.

And Eleazar son of Aaron died and was buried at Gibeah, which had been allotted to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.

At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.

When Phinehas the priest and the leaders of the community— the heads of the clans of the Israelites— heard what Reuben, Gad and Manasseh had to say, they were pleased.And Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, said to Reuben, Gad and Manasseh,“ Today we know that the Lord is with us, because you have not been unfaithful to the Lord in this matter. Now you have rescued the Israelites from the Lord’s hand.”Then Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, and the leaders returned to Canaan from their meeting with the Reubenites and Gadites in Gilead and reported to the Israelites.

Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him,“ Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.”So David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines and carried off their livestock. He inflicted heavy losses on the Philistines and saved the people of Keilah.( Now Abiathar son of Ahimelek had brought the ephod down with him when he fled to David at Keilah.)Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah, and he said,“ God has delivered him into my hands, for David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars.”And Saul called up all his forces for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod.”David said,“ Lord, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me.Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Lord, God of Israel, tell your servant.” And the Lord said,“ He will.”Again David asked,“ Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord said,“ They will.”

You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’”

Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

The Lord answered,“ Judah shall go up; I have given the land into their hands.”

The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.David was afraid of the Lord that day and said,“ How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?”He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed- Edom the Gittite.The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.Now King David was told,“ The Lord has blessed the household of Obed- Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed- Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.

And Joshua said,“ Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!

So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead— to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

and David inquired of the Lord,“ Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?”“ Pursue them,” he answered.“ You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.”

so David inquired of the Lord,“ Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The Lord answered him,“ Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said,“ As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered,“ Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.”

So Saul asked God,“ Shall I go down and pursue the Philistines? Will you give them into Israel’s hand?” But God did not answer him that day.

When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his handand followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped;but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.The Lord said to Moses,“ Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal.Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him.He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites.”

They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart
