Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they buried him in Gibeah in the hill country of Ephraim, where his son Phinehas had been assigned land.

At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the LORD’s covenant, to stand before the LORD to serve him, and to formulate blessings in his name, as they do to this very day.

When Phinehas the priest and the community leaders and clan leaders who accompanied him heard the defense of the Reubenites, Gadites, and the Manassehites, they were satisfied.Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest, said to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the Manassehites,“ Today we know that the LORD is among us, because you have not disobeyed the LORD in this. So David asked the LORD once again. He took away their cattle and thoroughly defeated them. David delivered the inhabitants of Keilah.Now when Abiathar son of Ahimelech had fled to David at Keilah, he had brought with him an ephod.When Saul was told that David had come to Keilah, Saul said,“ God has delivered him into my hand, for he has boxed himself into a corner by entering a city with two barred gates.”So Saul mustered all his army to go down to Keilah and besiege David and his men.When David realized that Saul was planning to harm him, he told Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod!”Then David said,“ O LORD God of Israel, your servant has clearly heard that Saul is planning to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me.Will the leaders of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, please inform your servant!” Then the LORD said,“ He will come down.”David asked,“ Will the leaders of Keilah deliver me and my men into Saul’s hand?” The LORD said,“ They will deliver you over.”

You will not fight in this battle. Take your positions, stand, and watch the LORD deliver you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid and don’t panic! Tomorrow march out toward them; the LORD is with you!’”

LORD, we know that people do not control their own destiny. It is not in their power to determine what will happen to them.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

The LORD said,“ The men of Judah should take the lead. Be sure of this! I am handing the land over to them.”

The LORD was so furious with Uzzah, he killed him on the spot for his negligence. He died right there beside the ark of God.David was angry because the LORD attacked Uzzah; so he called that place Perez Uzzah, which remains its name to this very day.David was afraid of the LORD that day and said,“ How will the ark of the LORD ever come to me?”So David was no longer willing to bring the ark of the LORD to be with him in the City of David. David left it in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months. The LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his family.David was told,“ The LORD has blessed the family of Obed-Edom and everything he owns because of the ark of God.” So David went and joyfully brought the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David.

Joshua prayed,“ O, Master, LORD! Why did you bring these people across the Jordan to hand us over to the Amorites so they could destroy us?

The Israelites sent Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

David inquired of the LORD, saying,“ Should I pursue this raiding band? Will I overtake them?” He said to him,“ Pursue, for you will certainly overtake them and carry out a rescue!”

So David asked the LORD,“ Should I march up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The LORD said to David,“ March up, for I will indeed hand the Philistines over to you.”So David marched against Baal Perazim and defeated them there. Then he said,“ The LORD has burst out against my enemies like water bursts out.” So he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men picked them up.The Philistines again came up and spread out in the valley of Rephaim.So David asked the LORD what he should do. This time the LORD said to him,“ Don’t march straight up. Instead, circle around behind them and come against them opposite the trees.When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the trees, act decisively. For at that moment the LORD is going before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.”

So Saul asked God,“ Should I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he did not answer him that day.

When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he got up from among the assembly, took a javelin in his hand,and went after the Israelite man into the tent and thrust through the Israelite man and into the woman’s abdomen. So the plague was stopped from the Israelites.Those that died in the plague were 24,000.The LORD spoke to Moses:“ Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites, when he manifested such zeal for my sake among them, so that I did not consume the Israelites in my zeal.Therefore, announce:‘ I am going to give to him my covenant of peace.So it will be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of a permanent priesthood, because he has been zealous for his God, and has made atonement for the Israelites.’”

They loaded the ark of God on a new cart and carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart.
