當天晚上，耶和華吩咐基甸說：「起來，下去攻打敵營吧！我已把敵人交在你手中了。

因為你們的上帝耶和華從各支派中揀選了利未人，讓他們世代奉祂的名事奉。

亞倫的兒子以利亞撒也死了，他們把他葬在他兒子非尼哈分到的以法蓮山區的基比亞。

那時，耶和華把利未支派分別出來，派他們抬祂的約櫃，站立在祂面前事奉祂，奉祂的名祝福，至今未變。

祭司非尼哈和以色列會眾的族長聽了他們的解釋，都很滿意。以利亞撒的兒子祭司非尼哈對他們說：「今日我們知道耶和華在我們當中，因為你們沒有對耶和華不忠，現在你們使以色列人免遭耶和華的懲罰了。」以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈祭司和眾族長便離開呂便人和迦得人，從基列回到迦南向以色列人報告這事。

大衛再求問耶和華，耶和華答道：「到基伊拉去吧，我一定把非利士人交在你手裡。」於是，大衛和部下到基伊拉去攻打非利士人，大敗敵人，奪取了他們的牲畜，救出基伊拉人。亞希米勒的兒子祭司亞比亞他到基伊拉投奔大衛時，把以弗得也帶了去。掃羅得知大衛在基伊拉，就說：「這一次是上帝把他交在我手中了，因為他竟然自投網羅，進入有門有閂的城。」掃羅召集全軍準備攻打基伊拉，圍困大衛和他的部下。大衛知道了掃羅的計謀，便吩咐祭司亞比亞他把以弗得帶來，然後說：「耶和華，以色列的上帝啊，僕人聽說掃羅要來毀滅基伊拉，因為我在這裡。基伊拉的人會不會把我交給掃羅呢？掃羅是不是像我聽說的那樣要來這裡呢？耶和華，以色列的上帝啊，求你告訴我。」耶和華說：「掃羅一定會來。」大衛又問耶和華：「基伊拉的人會不會把我和我的部下交給掃羅呢？」耶和華說：「他們一定會。」

你們不用與他們交戰，只要守住陣勢，站立不動，看耶和華為你們施行拯救。猶大人和耶路撒冷人啊，不要恐懼，不要驚慌，明天只管出去迎敵，耶和華必與你們同在！』」

耶和華啊，人不能駕馭自己的命運，不能左右自己的將來。

你要全心信靠耶和華，不可倚靠自己的悟性。凡事都要尋求祂，祂必指引你走正路。

耶和華說：「猶大支派先去，我已把那片土地交在他們手中了。」

耶和華上帝就向烏撒發怒，因他的不敬而擊殺了他。他死在了約櫃旁邊。大衛因耶和華擊殺烏撒而煩惱，就稱那地方為毗列斯·烏撒，沿用至今。那天，大衛懼怕耶和華，他說：「耶和華的約櫃怎能運到我這裡？」他不願把耶和華的約櫃運進大衛城，而是把它運到迦特人俄別·以東家。耶和華的約櫃在俄別·以東家停放了三個月，耶和華賜福給俄別·以東和他全家。大衛聽說耶和華因為約櫃而賜福給俄別·以東全家及其一切所有，就滿心歡喜地去把上帝的約櫃從俄別·以東家接進大衛城。

約書亞說：「唉！主耶和華啊，你讓我們過了約旦河，為什麼把我們交在亞摩利人手上，讓他們毀滅我們呢？倒不如讓我們住在約旦河對岸！

以色列人派祭司以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈去基列見他們，

大衛求問耶和華，說：「我該追趕敵人嗎？我能追上他們嗎？」耶和華答道：「追趕他們吧，你必能追上他們，救回一切。」

大衛求問耶和華：「我可以去迎戰非利士人嗎？你會把他們交在我手裡嗎？」耶和華說：「去吧，我必把他們交在你手裡。」大衛前往巴力·毗拉心，在那裡打敗了敵人。他說：「耶和華像洪水決堤一樣為我沖垮了仇敵。」於是他稱那地方為巴力·毗拉心。大衛和他的軍隊帶走了非利士人所丟棄的神像。後來非利士人又捲土重來，散佈在利乏音谷。大衛又求問耶和華，耶和華說：「你不要正面出擊，要繞到他們後面，從桑林對面攻打他們。當你聽見桑樹梢上響起腳步聲時，就要快速進攻，因為那表示耶和華已在你前頭去攻擊非利士的軍隊了。」

於是，掃羅求問上帝，說：「耶和華啊，我們可以去追殺非利士人嗎？你會把他們交在以色列人手裡嗎？」但耶和華那日沒有回答他。

亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，便起身離開會眾，拿著矛槍，跟著進入那人的帳篷，一槍刺透那對男女的腹部。以色列人當中的瘟疫馬上止住了，但已有兩萬四千人死於瘟疫。耶和華對摩西說：「亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈消了我對以色列人的怒氣。因為在會眾中他與我一樣痛恨不貞，我才沒有在烈怒中消滅他們。你告訴他，我要賜給他平安的約，使他和他的後代憑此約可以永遠做祭司，因為他為我除掉了不貞之人，為以色列人贖了罪。」

他們把上帝的約櫃從座落在山上的亞比拿達家抬出來，放在一輛新造的牛車上，由亞比拿達的兩個兒子烏撒和亞希約趕車，
