Then all Israel from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came together as one and assembled before the Lord in Mizpah.

Then all the Israelites came out. They came from the whole land between Dan and Beersheba. They also came from the land of Gilead. All of them gathered together in front of the Lord at Mizpah.

王就对约押和跟随他的军官说：“你们走遍以色列各支派，从但到别是巴，数点人民，我好知道人民的数目。”

到了七月，以色列人都住在自己的城里。（《马索拉文本》以本句为7:73下半节）那时众民如同一人，在水门前的广场聚集，请经学家以斯拉把耶和华藉摩西命令以色列人遵守的律法书带来。

撒母耳又说：“你们要把以色列众人都聚集在米斯巴，我好为你们向耶和华祷告。”于是，他们聚集在米斯巴，打了水，浇奠在耶和华面前；当日他们禁食，并且在那里说：“我们得罪了耶和华。”撒母耳就在米斯巴治理以色列人。

于是下了命令，通告全以色列，从别是巴直到但，叫人民来耶路撒冷守逾越节记念耶和华以色列的神，因为照着所记的定例举行这节的人不多。

玛拿西是约瑟的长子，他的支派抽签所得的地业记在下面；至于玛拿西的长子，基列的父亲玛吉，因为是个战士，所以得到基列和巴珊。

并且立了他作王，统治基列、亚书利、耶斯列、以法莲、便雅悯和以色列众人。

以色列众人，就是全体人民，又上到伯特利，坐在耶和华面前哀哭，那日禁食直到晚上，然后在耶和华面前献上燔祭和平安祭。

这样，大卫挽回了犹大众人的心，好像一人的心。于是他们差派人去见王，说：“请你和你的众臣仆都回来！”

按着他们的祖宗，以色列所生的儿子但的名字，给那城起名叫但；其实那城原先的名字叫拉亿。

到了七月，各城里的以色列人，如同一人，都在耶路撒冷聚集。

以色列人就起来，上伯特利去求问神，说：“我们之中谁应首先上去，与便雅悯人交战呢？”耶和华说：“犹大应首先上去。”

当时亚扪人聚集起来，在基列安营；以色列人也聚集，在米斯巴安营。

于是大卫对约押和民众的领袖说：“你们去数点以色列人，从别是巴直到但，然后回来见我，让我知道他们的数目。”

于是以色列众人彼此联合，如同一人，聚集起来攻击那城。

众将领和他们的士兵，听见巴比伦王委派了基大利，他们就来到米斯巴去见基大利；其中有尼探雅的儿子以实玛利、加利亚的儿子约哈难、尼陀法人单户篾的儿子西莱雅、玛迦人的儿子雅撒尼亚，以及他们的士兵。

于是众人都起来如同一人，说：“我们当中谁都不回自己的帐棚，谁都不回自己的家。

全民的领袖，就是以色列众支派的领袖，都站在神子民的会中；拿刀的步兵共有四十万人。

流本子孙和迦得子孙的牲畜极其众多；他们看见雅谢地和基列地都是可牧放牲畜的地方，

他牵来一对牛，把它们切成碎块，交给使者，送到以色列的全境去，说：“不出来跟从扫罗和撒母耳的，他的牛也必受到这样的对待。”因众民惧怕耶和华，他们就都出来，如同一人。扫罗在比色数点他们。以色列人共有三十万，犹大人有三万。

“在耶和华你的神赐给你居住的一座城中，如果你听说有些匪徒从你中间出来，把本城的居民引离，说：‘我们去事奉别的神吧。’那些神是你们素来不认识的；你就要调查、研究，仔细访问，如果的确有这可厌恶的事行在你们中间，你就要用刀剑把那城里的居民杀掉，把那城和城里的一切，以及牲畜，都用刀剑完全毁灭。并且把从城里掠夺的一切战利品，都要收集在那城的广场上，用火把城和在城里掠夺的一切战利品焚烧，献给耶和华你的神；那城就要永远成为废墟，不可再建造。那当毁灭的物，一点也不可留在你手中，好使耶和华转意不发烈怒，反而向你施恩，怜悯你，照着他向你的列祖所起的誓，使你的人数增多；只要你听从耶和华你的神的话，遵守我今日吩咐你的一切诫命，实行耶和华你的神看为正的事，就必这样。”
