既作完了，他們就把剩下的銀子送到王和耶何耶大面前；銀子就用來製造永恆主殿裏的器皿、供奉和獻祭的器皿、碟子、金銀的器皿。儘耶何耶大在世的日子、眾人都不斷在永恆主殿裏獻上燔祭。耶何耶大年紀老邁，歲數滿足而死；他死的時候一百三十歲。人將他埋葬在大衛城裏，同諸王在一處；因為他在以色列中行了善事，並且對上帝和上帝的殿也有好的作為。耶何耶大死了以後，猶大的首領們來朝拜王；這時王就聽從他們。人們離棄了永恆主他們列祖之上帝的殿，去服事亞舍拉神木和偶像。因了他們這罪過，就有上帝的震怒臨到了猶大和耶路撒冷。但上帝仍然差遣神言人到他們那裏、去引導他們回轉來歸向永恆主；這些神言人警告他們，他們卻不側耳聽從。那時上帝的靈覆被在祭司耶何耶大的兒子撒迦利亞身上，撒迦利亞就站在比人民高的地方，對他們說：『上帝這麼說：「你們為甚麼越犯了永恆主的誡命，以致不能順利呢？因為你們離棄了永恆主，永恆主也離棄你們。」』眾民陰謀要害撒迦利亞，就照王所吩咐的在永恆主之殿的院子、扔石頭把他砍死。這樣、約阿施王不想念撒迦利亞的父親耶何耶大怎樣以忠愛待他本人，反而殺了他的兒子。撒迦利亞臨死的時候說：『願永恆主察看而討罰！』

儘祭司耶何耶大指教他的日子，約阿施都行永恆主所看為對的事。

所以我親愛的，你們既時常聽從了，就該敬畏戰兢地作成你們自己的得救；不但像我和你們同在時那樣，就是如今我和你們不同在時、你們也更應當聽從；
