I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did.”

I will use those nations to test Israel. I will see whether Israel will live the way I, the Lord, want them to. I will see whether they will be like their people of long ago. I will see whether they will follow my path.”

你要記得、這四十年在曠野、永恆主你的上帝一路引領你，是要使你受苦、是要試驗你，要知道你心裏怎樣、肯守他的誡命不肯。

在曠野、他將你列祖所不認識的嗎哪賜給你喫，都是要使你受苦，要試驗你，使你終久得好處；

你不可聽那神言人或那作夢的人的話；因為永恆主你們的上帝在試驗着你們、要知道你們是不是真地全心全意愛永恆主你們的上帝。

鼎要鍊銀，爐要鍊金；惟有永恆主是察驗人心的。

以下這些國的人就是永恆主所留下，為要藉着他們來試驗以色列人，一切不曾經驗過迦南任何戰事的人，不過是要叫以色列後代、至少那些從未經驗戰事的、經驗經驗戰事，好得教導而已。所留下的就是：非利士人的五個霸主、和一切迦南人、西頓人，和住利巴嫩山的希未人，從巴力黑們山直到哈馬口。他們在那裏，這是要藉着他們來試驗以色列人，好知道他們肯不肯聽從永恆主的誡命、就是永恆主由摩西經手所吩咐他們祖宗的。

所以巴比倫公侯的大使奉差來見希西家、要查問猶大地所發生的兆頭；在這件事上帝也放任希西家隨意而行，為的是要試驗他，好知道他內心所隱藏的是甚麼。

因為上帝啊，你曾檢查我們，熬煉我們，如熬煉銀子一樣。

然而他知道我素常的路；他試煉了我，我就顯出是黃金。
