I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did.”

你也要記念耶和華－你的神在曠野引導你這四十年，是要苦煉你，試驗你，要知道你心內如何，肯守他的誡命不肯。

又在曠野將你列祖所不認識的嗎哪賜給你吃，是要苦煉你，試驗你，叫你終久享福；

你也不可聽那先知或是那做夢之人的話；因為這是耶和華－你們的神試驗你們，要知道你們是盡心盡性愛耶和華－你們的神不是。

這些事以後，神要試驗亞伯拉罕，就呼叫他說：「亞伯拉罕！」他說：「我在這裏。」

鼎為煉銀，爐為煉金；惟有耶和華熬煉人心。

他來的日子，誰能當得起呢？他顯現的時候，誰能立得住呢？因為他如煉金之人的火，如漂布之人的鹼。他必坐下如煉淨銀子的，必潔淨利未人，熬煉他們像金銀一樣；他們就憑公義獻供物給耶和華。

耶和華留下這幾族，為要試驗那不曾知道與迦南爭戰之事的以色列人，好叫以色列的後代又知道又學習未曾曉得的戰事。所留下的就是非利士的五個首領和一切迦南人、西頓人，並住黎巴嫩山的希未人，從巴力‧黑們山直到哈馬口。留下這幾族，為要試驗以色列人，知道他們肯聽從耶和華藉摩西吩咐他們列祖的誡命不肯。

惟有一件事，就是巴比倫王差遣使者來見希西家，訪問國中所現的奇事；這件事神離開他，要試驗他，好知道他心內如何。

神啊，你曾試驗我們，熬煉我們，如熬煉銀子一樣。

然而他知道我所行的路；他試煉我之後，我必如精金。
