I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did.”

I will use those nations to test Israel. I will see whether Israel will live the way I, the Lord, want them to. I will see whether they will be like their people of long ago. I will see whether they will follow my path.”

這些國的人是耶和華留下的，為要藉著他們來試驗以色列人，就是所有沒有經驗過迦南任何戰爭的人；好使以色列人的後代，那些以前沒有經驗過這些戰爭的人，知道學習爭戰。他留下的就是非利士人的五個首領，和所有迦南人、西頓人，以及住在黎巴嫩山上的希未人，從巴力．黑門山直到哈馬口。他們留在那裡，為要藉著他們試驗以色列人，要知道他們是否聽從耶和華藉摩西吩咐他們列祖的誡命。

唯有巴比倫王的使者奉派來見希西家，詢問猶大地發生的奇事的時候，神就離開了他，為要試驗他，好知道他心中的一切。

神啊！你試煉了我們，熬煉了我們，如同熬煉銀子一般。

可是他知道我所行的道路，他試煉我以後，我必像精金出現。
