You are not to make a covenant with the people who are living in this land, and you are to tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed Me. What is this you have done?

勿與斯土之民立約、必毀其壇、而爾不聽我言、果何為哉、

爾與斯土之民、不可立約、必摧其壇、汝不遵命、果何為哉。

惟爾不可與斯地之居民立約、當毀其祭壇、爾竟不遵我言、爾何為哉、

and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this?

So you must not make a covenant with the people of this land. Instead, you must tear down their altars.’ But you have disobeyed me. Why did you do it?

and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done?

For your part, you were not to make any covenants with the people living in this land; instead, you were to destroy their altars. But you disobeyed my command. Why did you do this?

You are not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You are to tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed me. What have you done?

and as for you, you shall not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed Me; what is this thing that you have done?

And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?

and ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall break down their altars. But ye have not hearkened unto my voice: why have ye done this?

And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

but you must not make an agreement with the people who live in this land. You should tear down the altars where they worship.’ But you have disobeyed me. Why would you do such a thing?

You shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?

and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,because they will turn your sons away from Me to worship other gods. Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.

How unstable you are, constantly changing your ways! You will be put to shame by Egypt just as you were put to shame by Assyria.

This is what the Lord says: What fault did your fathers find in Me that they went so far from Me, followed worthless idols, and became worthless themselves?

For the time has come for judgment to begin with God’s household, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

Now, our God, what can we say in light of this? For we have abandoned the commandsYou gave through Your servants the prophets, saying:“ The land you are entering to possess is an impure land. The surrounding peoples have filled it from end to end with their uncleanness by their impurity and detestable practices.So do not give your daughters to their sons in marriage or take their daughters for your sons. Never seek their peace or prosperity, so that you will be strong, eat the good things of the land, and leave it as an inheritance to your sons forever.”After all that has happened to us because of our evil deeds and terrible guilt— though You, our God, have punished us less than our sins deserve and have allowed us to survive—

They did not destroy the peoples as the Lord had commanded thembut mingled with the nations and adopted their ways.They served their idols, which became a snare to them.They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.They shed innocent blood— the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; so the land became polluted with blood.They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds.Therefore the Lord’s anger burned against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance.

However, you must not let any living thing survive among the cities of these people the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.You must completely destroy them— the Hittite, Amorite, Canaanite, Perizzite, Hivite, and Jebusite— as the Lord your God has commanded you,so that they won’t teach you to do all the detestable things they do for their gods, and you sin against the Lord your God.

Then He asked,“ Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”Then the man replied,“ The woman You gave to be with me— she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate.”

You must destroy all the peoples the Lord your God is delivering over to you and not look on them with pity. Do not worship their gods, for that will be a snare to you.

Now what will you gain by traveling along the way to Egypt to drink the waters of the Nile? What will you gain by traveling along the way to Assyria to drink the waters of the Euphrates?

Be careful not to make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land that you are going to enter; otherwise, they will become a snare among you.Instead, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and chop down their Asherah poles.You are never to bow down to another god because Yahweh, being jealous by nature, is a jealous God.“ Do not make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land, or else when they prostitute themselves with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, they will invite you, and you will eat their sacrifices.Then you will take some of their daughters as brides for your sons. Their daughters will prostitute themselves with their gods and cause your sons to prostitute themselves with their gods.

Then He said,“ What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground!

you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images and cast images, and demolish all their high places.You are to take possession of the land and settle in it because I have given you the land to possess.

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He declared,“ Because this nation has violated My covenant that I made with their fathers and disobeyed Me,

Evil generation, pay attention to the word of the Lord! Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of dense darkness? Why do My people claim,“ We will go where we want; we will no longer come to You”?Can a young woman forget her jewelry or a bride her wedding sash? Yet My people have forgotten Me for countless days.How skillfully you pursue love; you also teach evil women your ways.

He drove out nations before them. He apportioned their inheritance by lot and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.But they rebelliously tested the Most High God, for they did not keep His decrees.They treacherously turned away like their fathers; they became warped like a faulty bow.They enraged Him with their high places and provoked His jealousy with their carved images.

You must burn up the carved images of their gods. Don’t covet the silver and gold on the images and take it for yourself, or else you will be ensnared by it, for it is abhorrent to the Lord your God.You must not bring any abhorrent thing into your house, or you will be set apart for destruction like it. You are to utterly detest and abhor it, because it is set apart for destruction.

Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?And what agreement does God’s sanctuary have with idols? For we are the sanctuary of the living God, as God said: I will dwell among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you.

Destroy completely all the places where the nations that you are driving out worship their gods— on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn up their Asherah poles, cut down the carved images of their gods, and wipe out their names from every place.

Then Moses asked Aaron,“ What did these people do to you that you have led them into such a grave sin?”

After these things had been done, the leaders approached me and said:“ The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the surrounding peoples whose detestable practices are like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.Indeed, the Israelite men have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has become mixed with the surrounding peoples. The leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”When I heard this report, I tore my tunic and robe, pulled out some of the hair from my head and beard, and sat down devastated.

However, I did give them this command: Obey Me, and then I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must follow every way I command you so that it may go well with you.Yet they didn’t listen or pay attention but followed their own advice and according to their own stubborn, evil heart. They went backward and not forward.Since the day your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent all My servants the prophets to you time and time again.However, they wouldn’t listen to Me or pay attention but became obstinate; they did more evil than their ancestors.“ When you speak all these things to them, they will not listen to you. When you call to them, they will not answer you.You must therefore declare to them: This is the nation that would not listen to the voice of the Lord their God and would not accept discipline. Truth has perished— it has disappeared from their mouths.

You must not make a covenant with them or their gods.They must not remain in your land, or else they will make you sin against Me. If you worship their gods, it will be a snare for you.”

taking vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
