非利士人向以色列人擺陣。兩軍交戰的時候，以色列人敗在非利士人面前；非利士人在戰場上殺了他們約四千人。百姓回到營裏，以色列的長老說：「耶和華今日為何使我們敗在非利士人面前呢？我們要將耶和華的約櫃從示羅抬到我們這裏來，好讓他來到我們中間，救我們脫離敵人的手掌。」

米迦這個人有了神堂，又造了以弗得和家中的神像，派他的一個兒子作祭司。

非利士人進攻，以色列人敗了，各往自己的家逃跑。被殺的人很多，以色列倒下的步兵有三萬。上帝的約櫃被擄去，以利的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈也都被殺了。

米迦把這一千一百塊銀子還他母親。他母親說：「我把這銀子分別為聖，親手獻給耶和華，為我兒子造一尊雕刻的像，以及一尊鑄成的像。現在我把銀子交給你。」

西坡拉生了一個兒子，摩西給他起名叫革舜，因他說：「我在外地作了寄居者。」

甚至離棄示羅的帳幕，就是他在人間所搭的帳棚；又將他有能力的約櫃交給人擄去，將他的榮耀交在敵人手中；並將他的百姓交給刀劍，向他的產業發怒。

以色列人又行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，耶和華將他們交在非利士人手中四十年。

「『凡製造耶和華所憎惡的偶像，無論是雕刻的，是鑄造的，就是工匠用手造的，或暗中設置的，這人必受詛咒！』眾百姓要回應說：『阿們！』

又帶着她的兩個兒子：一個名叫革舜，因為摩西說：「我在外地作了寄居者」；

「在你中間，在耶和華－你上帝所賜你的各城中，任何一座城裏，若有男人或女人做了耶和華－你上帝眼中看為惡的事，違背了他的約，去事奉別神，敬拜它們，或拜太陽，或拜月亮，或拜天上的萬象，是我不曾吩咐的。有人告訴你，你也聽見了，就要細心探聽。看哪，是真的，確實有這可憎的事在以色列中發生，你就要將行這惡事的男人或女人拉到城門外，用石頭把這男人或女人處死。要憑兩個證人或三個證人的口，才可以把他處死，不可只憑一個證人的口處死他。證人要先動手，然後眾百姓也動手把他處死。這樣，你就把惡從你中間除掉。

「你們不可為自己造虛無的神明，不可豎立雕刻的偶像或柱像，也不可在你們的地上安放石像，向它跪拜，因為我是耶和華－你們的上帝。

他把列國的地賜給他們，他們就承受萬民勞碌得來的，好讓他們遵他的律例，守他的律法。哈利路亞！

我知道我死後你們必全然敗壞，偏離我所吩咐你們的道。日後必有禍患臨到你們，因為你們做了耶和華眼中看為惡的事，以你們手中所做的惹他發怒。」

「不可為自己雕刻偶像，也不可做甚麼形像，彷彿上天、下地和地底下水中的百物。

耶和華對摩西說：「看哪，你必和你的祖先同睡。這百姓要起來，在他們所要去的地上，在那地的人中，隨從外邦的神明行淫，離棄我，違背我與他們所立的約。
