非利士人向以色列人擺陣。兩軍交戰的時候，以色列人敗在非利士人面前；非利士人在戰場上殺了他們的軍兵約有四千人。百姓回到營裏，以色列的長老說：「耶和華今日為何使我們敗在非利士人面前呢？我們不如將耶和華的約櫃從示羅擡到我們這裏來，好在我們中間救我們脫離敵人的手。」

這米迦有了神堂，又製造以弗得和家中的神像，分派他一個兒子作祭司。

非利士人和以色列人打仗，以色列人敗了，各向各家奔逃，被殺的人甚多，以色列的步兵仆倒了三萬。神的約櫃被擄去，以利的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈也都被殺了。

米迦就把這一千一百舍客勒銀子還他母親。他母親說：「我分出這銀子來為你獻給耶和華，好雕刻一個像，鑄成一個像。現在我還是交給你。」

西坡拉生了一個兒子，摩西給他起名叫革舜，意思說：「因我在外邦作了寄居的。」

甚至他離棄示羅的帳幕，就是他在人間所搭的帳棚；又將他的約櫃交與人擄去，將他的榮耀交在敵人手中；並將他的百姓交與刀劍，向他的產業發怒。

以色列人又行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，耶和華將他們交在非利士人手中四十年。

「『有人製造耶和華所憎惡的偶像，或雕刻，或鑄造，就是工匠手所做的，在暗中設立，那人必受咒詛！』百姓都要答應說：『阿們！』

又帶着西坡拉的兩個兒子，一個名叫革舜，因為摩西說：「我在外邦作了寄居的」；

「在你們中間，在耶和華－你神所賜你的諸城中，無論哪座城裏，若有人，或男或女，行耶和華－你神眼中看為惡的事，違背了他的約，去事奉敬拜別神，或拜日頭，或拜月亮，或拜天象，是主不曾吩咐的；有人告訴你，你也聽見了，就要細細地探聽，果然是真，準有這可憎惡的事行在以色列中，你就要將行這惡事的男人或女人拉到城門外，用石頭將他打死。要憑兩三個人的口作見證將那當死的人治死；不可憑一個人的口作見證將他治死。見證人要先下手，然後眾民也下手將他治死。這樣，就把那惡從你們中間除掉。

「你們不可做甚麼虛無的神像，不可立雕刻的偶像或是柱像，也不可在你們的地上安甚麼鏨成的石像，向它跪拜，因為我是耶和華－你們的神。

他將列國的地賜給他們，他們便承受眾民勞碌得來的，好使他們遵他的律例，守他的律法。你們要讚美耶和華！

我知道我死後，你們必全然敗壞，偏離我所吩咐你們的道，行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，以手所做的惹他發怒；日後必有禍患臨到你們。」

「不可為自己雕刻偶像，也不可做甚麼形像彷彿上天、下地，和地底下、水中的百物。

耶和華又對摩西說：「你必和你列祖同睡。這百姓要起來，在他們所要去的地上，在那地的人中，隨從外邦神行邪淫，離棄我，違背我與他們所立的約。
