非利士人和以色列人交戰，以色列人敗下陣來，紛紛逃回家中。他們傷亡慘重，損失了三萬步兵。上帝的約櫃被擄走了，以利的兩個兒子何弗尼和非尼哈被殺身亡。

米迦把一千一百塊銀子還給母親。他母親說：「我要為你把這些銀子獻給耶和華，用來雕刻、鑄造神像。現在這銀子還是你的。」

後來，西坡拉生了一個兒子，摩西給他取名叫革舜，意思是「我成了在異鄉寄居的人」。

祂離棄了設在示羅的聖幕，就是祂在人間的居所。祂任憑自己的約櫃被人擄去，讓自己的榮耀落在敵人手中。祂使自己的子民被刀劍殺戮，向自己的產業大發怒氣。

以色列人又做耶和華視為惡的事，耶和華就把他們交在非利士人手中四十年。

『凡雕刻或鑄造耶和華所憎惡的神像，並偷偷供奉的必受咒詛！』全體民眾要回答說，『阿們！』

摩西的兩個兒子一個叫革舜，因為摩西說：「我成了在異鄉寄居的人」；

「如果有人在你們的上帝耶和華將要賜給你們的各城鎮做祂視為惡的事，違背祂的約，不遵守祂的禁令，去供奉和祭拜其他神明，祭拜日、月或星辰，你們得知後，必須徹底調查。如果屬實，在以色列確實有人做這種可憎之事，就要把那人帶到城門口，用石頭打死他。但你們不可單憑一個證人便處死那人，要有兩三個證人方可處死他。證人要先扔石頭，眾人隨後，這樣就除掉了你們中間的罪惡。

「你們不可為自己製造偶像，不可豎立神像和神柱，也不可在你們境內安放祭拜用的石像。我是你們的上帝耶和華。

祂把列國的土地賜給他們，使他們獲得別人的勞動成果。祂這樣做是要使他們持守祂的命令，遵行祂的律法。你們要讚美耶和華！

我知道，我死後你們會徹底墮落，偏離我吩咐你們行的道，做耶和華視為惡的事，惹祂發怒，將來禍患必臨到你們。」

「不可為自己雕刻神像，不可仿照任何飛禽走獸或水族的樣子造神像，

耶和華對摩西說：「你快要與祖先同眠了。這些百姓將很快在要佔領的土地上與外族人的神明苟合，背棄我，違背我與他們所立的約。
