He replied,“ Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.” For three days they could not give the answer.

The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

He replied,“ You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.

Each time he said,“ My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands.When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

Because God’s children are human beings— made of flesh and blood— the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ.And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives.They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News.Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance.For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.

The man replied,“ How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him.

For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness.No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening— it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock!He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good.

King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables— more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all!

Wisdom is too lofty for fools. Among leaders at the city gate, they have nothing to say.

Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat,“ A vast army from Edom is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea. They are already at Hazazon tamar.”( This was another name for En gedi.)

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
