永恆主的使者向那婦人顯現，對她說：『注意吧，你向來不能生育，沒有生過孩子，如今你必懷孕，生個兒子。

永恆主的使者來到，坐在聖篤耨香樹之下。就是在俄弗拉、屬亞比以謝族人約阿施的那棵；約阿施的兒子基甸正在酒醡裏打麥子，為要躲避米甸人的眼目。永恆主的使者向基甸顯現，對他說：『有力氣英勇的人哪，永恆主與你同在。』

永恆主的使者從吉甲上到波金，說：『我領你們從埃及上來，帶你們到我向你們列祖起誓應許的地；我又說：「我永遠不違犯我的約、同你們立的約；

瑪挪亞就懇求永恆主說：『主啊，請叫你所差遣的神人再到我們這裏來，好指教我們怎樣看管這將要生下來的孩子。』

那位說：『在婦人懷孕滿期的時候，我一定要回到你這裏來。看吧，你妻子撒拉必生個兒子。』撒拉在後邊帳棚聽着呢。

哈拿就懷孕；日期到、便生了一個兒子，她就給他起名叫撒母耳，因為她說：『他是我從永恆主求來的。』

以利沙說：『到了日期，約在婦人懷孕滿期的時候、你就要抱兒子了。』婦人說：『我主神人哪，不會的；你別和婢女開玩笑啦。』

婦人就去、對她丈夫說：『有一個神人到我面前來，他的容貌像上帝使者的容貌，很可畏懼；我沒有問他從哪裏來，他也沒有將他的名字告訴我，

婦人急忙跑去報告丈夫，對他說：『看哪，那天到我面前來的那人又向我顯現了。』

我必賜福與她，賜給你一個兒子由她而出：我必賜福與她，使她做多國之母；必有多族之民的王由她而出。』

永恆主的使者在曠野的水泉邊，在往書珥路上的泉旁遇見了她。就說：『撒萊的婢女夏甲，你從哪裏來？要往哪裏去？』夏甲說：『我從我主母撒萊面前逃出來。』永恆主的使者對夏甲說：『你回到你主母那裏，屈服在她手下。』永恆主的使者又對她說：『我必定使你的後裔大大增多，多到數不過來。』永恆主的使者又對她說：『看哪，你如今懷了孕，必生個兒子；你要給他起名叫以實瑪利，因為你受的苦難永恆主聽見了。你兒子必像人類中的野驢：他的手必攻打人；人的手也必攻打他；他必居於和眾邦親相對的地位。』於是夏甲稱那對她說話的永恆主叫「你是看見萬事的上帝」，因為她說：『連在這裏我也居然看見那看着我的麼？』

天使進去，對她說：『蒙大恩的啊，恭喜！主與你同在！』馬利亞卻因這話而震盪不安，就反復思想這請安到底甚麼意思。天使對她說：『馬利亞，別怕了；你在上帝面前已經蒙恩。看吧，你必受孕生子；你要給他起名叫耶穌。『這一位必成為大，必稱為至高者的兒子，主上帝必將他祖大衛的王位給他；他必掌王權管理雅各家、萬世無窮；他的國必沒有終結。』馬利亞對天使說，『我沒有和男人親近，怎會有這事呢？』天使回答她說：『聖靈必臨到你身上，至高者的能力必蔭庇着你，故此所要生的必稱為聖者，稱為上帝的兒子。況且你看，你的親戚以利沙伯、在她老年時期也竟孕受男兒了；並且這已是她的第六個月了，她那素來稱為不能生育的！因為在上帝、必沒有一件事是不可能的。』馬利亞說：『看哪，我是主的婢女；情願照你的話在我身上成為事實。』天使就離開她去了。
