The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said,“ You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son.

哈娜就怀孕；时候到了，生了一个儿子。哈娜给儿子起名为撒母耳，因为她说：“我向耶和华求得了他。”

我要祝福她，也要藉着她赐给你一个儿子。我要祝福她，她将成为多国之母，万族的君王要从她而出。”

耶和华的使者在旷野的水泉旁，就是书珥路上的水泉旁，找到了夏甲，就问：“撒莱的婢女夏甲，你从哪里来，要到哪里去呢？”夏甲说：“我是从我的主母撒莱面前逃出来的。”耶和华的使者对她说：“回到你的主母那里，服在她的手下吧。”耶和华的使者又对她说：“我将使你的后裔大大增多，多得无法数清。”接着耶和华的使者对她说：“看哪，你怀了孕，将会生一个儿子，你要给他起名为以实玛利，因为耶和华听见了你的苦情。你这儿子为人必像野驴，他的手将与所有的人作对，所有人的手也与他作对，他将与他所有的兄弟对立而居。”夏甲就称那对她说话的耶和华为“你是看顾的神”，因为她说：“我竟然在这里见到了看顾我的那一位！”

天使来到她面前，说：“蒙大恩的女子，愿你欢喜，主与你同在！”玛丽亚因这话就惊慌不安，思索这问候到底是什么意思。天使对她说：“玛丽亚，不要怕，因为你在神面前蒙恩了。看哪，你将要怀孕生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫耶稣。他将要为大，被称为至高者的儿子；主、神要把他先祖大卫的王位赐给他。他要做王统管雅各家，直到永远，他的国度没有穷尽。”玛丽亚对天使说：“我既然没有出嫁，怎么会有这事呢？”天使回答她，说：“圣灵将要临到你，至高者的大能要荫庇你，因此，那要诞生的圣者将被称为神的儿子。你看，你的亲戚伊莉莎白虽然年老，也怀了男胎；那被称为不能生育的，现在已有六个月的身孕了。因为在神没有什么事是不可能的。”玛丽亚说：“看哪，我是主的婢女，愿这事照着你的话成就在我身上。”于是天使离开了她。
