but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,and the insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,so that no human may boast before God.

But certain useless men said,“ How can this one save us?” And they despised him and did not bring him a gift. But he kept silent about it.

And the sons of Ammon crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was in great difficulty.

Then the people said to Samuel,“ Who is he that said,‘ Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, so that we may put them to death!”

Then the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and he became very angry.He then took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying,“ Whoever does not come out after Saul and after Samuel, the same shall be done to his oxen.” Then the dread of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out as one person.

“ This Moses whom they disowned, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush.This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel,‘ God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your countrymen.’This is the one who was in the assembly in the wilderness together with the angel who spoke to him at length on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to you.Our fathers were unwilling to be obedient to him; on the contrary they rejected him and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

Then the sons of Ammon were summoned, and they camped in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together and camped in Mizpah.And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another,“ Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon? He shall become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
