When he saw her, he tore his clothes and cried,“ Oh no, my daughter! You have brought me down and I am devastated. I have made a vow to the Lord that I cannot break.”

When Jephthah saw her, he was so upset that he tore his clothes. He cried out,“ Oh no, my daughter! You have filled me with trouble and sorrow. I’ve made a promise to the Lord. And I can’t break it.”

And as soon as he saw her, he tore his clothes and said,“ Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I cannot take back my vow.”

When he saw her, he tore his clothes in anguish.“ Oh, my daughter!” he cried out.“ You have completely destroyed me! You’ve brought disaster on me! For I have made a vow to the Lord, and I cannot take it back.”

When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said,“ No! Not my daughter! You have devastated me! You have brought great misery on me. I have given my word to the LORD and cannot take it back.”

So when he saw her, he tore his clothes and said,“ Oh, my daughter! You have brought me disaster, and you are among those who trouble me; for I have given my word to the Lord, and I cannot take it back.”

And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me; for I have opened my mouth unto Jehovah, and I cannot go back.

When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said,“ No! Not my daughter! You have devastated me! You have brought great misery on me. I have given my word to the Lord and cannot take it back.”

And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.

When he saw her, he ripped his clothes and said,“ Oh no! My daughter! You have completely ruined me! You have brought me disaster! I made an oath to the LORD, and I cannot break it.”

When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said,“ Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are one of those who trouble me; for I have opened my mouth to Yahweh, and I can’t go back.”

王就渾身顫抖，上城門樓哀哭。他一邊走一邊說：「我兒押沙龍啊！我兒，我兒押沙龍啊！我要是能替你死就好了。押沙龍，我兒，我兒啊！」

他們還在路上，消息就傳到大衛那裡，說：「押沙龍擊殺了所有的王子，沒有剩下一個。」王就起來，撕裂衣服，伏在地上，侍立的臣僕們也都撕裂衣服。

他們的父親雅各對他們說：「你們使我喪失了兒子：約瑟不在了，西緬也不在了；你們又要把便雅憫帶走，這一切都是衝著我來的！」魯本告訴他父親說：「如果我不把便雅憫帶回來給你，你就可以殺死我的兩個兒子。只管把便雅憫交在我的手中吧，我必把他帶回來給你！」但雅各說：「我的兒子不可與你們一同下去，因為他哥哥死了，只剩下他。如果在你們所行的路上有災禍臨到他，你們就使白髮蒼蒼的我悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了！」

在神面前不要冒失開口，也不要心急發言，因為神在天上，你在地上，所以你要少言寡語。要知道，夢來自事務繁多，愚昧的聲音來自多言多語。你向神許了願，償還不可遲延，因為神不喜歡愚昧人；你所許的願應當償還。不許願，好過許了願卻不償還。不要任你的口使自己犯罪，也不要在使者面前說所許的願是個錯誤。為什麼要使神因你的聲音發怒而毀了你手所做的呢？

魯本回到那坑，見約瑟不在坑裡，就撕裂自己的衣服，回到他的兄弟們那裡，說：「那孩子不在了，而我該何去何從？」

故此王就起誓承諾，無論她求什麼都給她。女兒受母親的指使，就說：「請把施洗者約翰的頭放在盤子裡給我。」王就憂憂愁愁，但因所起的誓，又因一同坐席的人，就下令給她。

掃羅說：「約拿單，你必須死，否則願神處置我，重重地處置我！」軍兵對掃羅說：「約拿單為以色列成就了這樣大的拯救，怎麼可以死呢？絕對不可！我們指著耶和華的永生起誓：連他的一根頭髮也不可落在地上！因為他今天是與神一同行事。」這樣，人們救了約拿單，他就免於一死；

他眼中輕視被神所厭棄的人，卻尊重敬畏耶和華的人；他起了誓，就算自己吃虧也不反悔。

他們來到祭司長們和長老們那裡，說：「我們已經賭咒起誓，殺掉保羅以前，就什麼都不吃。

雅各就撕裂自己的衣服，把麻布束在腰上，為他兒子悲慟了許多日子。他所有的兒女都起來安慰他，他卻不肯受安慰，說：「我一定會悲哀地下陰間，到我兒子那裡。」約瑟的父親就為約瑟哀哭。
