When he saw her, he tore his clothes and cried,“ Oh no, my daughter! You have brought me down and I am devastated. I have made a vow to the Lord that I cannot break.”

在神面前不要冒失开口，也不要心急发言，因为神在天上，你在地上，所以你要少言寡语。要知道，梦来自事务繁多，愚昧的声音来自多言多语。你向神许了愿，偿还不可迟延，因为神不喜欢愚昧人；你所许的愿应当偿还。不许愿，好过许了愿却不偿还。不要任你的口使自己犯罪，也不要在使者面前说所许的愿是个错误。为什么要使神因你的声音发怒而毁了你手所做的呢？

鲁本回到那坑，见约瑟不在坑里，就撕裂自己的衣服，回到他的兄弟们那里，说：“那孩子不在了，而我该何去何从？”

故此王就起誓承诺，无论她求什么都给她。女儿受母亲的指使，就说：“请把施洗者约翰的头放在盘子里给我。”王就忧忧愁愁，但因所起的誓，又因一同坐席的人，就下令给她。

扫罗说：“约拿单，你必须死，否则愿神处置我，重重地处置我！”军兵对扫罗说：“约拿单为以色列成就了这样大的拯救，怎么可以死呢？绝对不可！我们指着耶和华的永生起誓：连他的一根头发也不可落在地上！因为他今天是与神一同行事。”这样，人们救了约拿单，他就免于一死；

他眼中轻视被神所厌弃的人，却尊重敬畏耶和华的人；他起了誓，就算自己吃亏也不反悔。

他们来到祭司长们和长老们那里，说：“我们已经赌咒起誓，杀掉保罗以前，就什么都不吃。

雅各就撕裂自己的衣服，把麻布束在腰上，为他儿子悲恸了许多日子。他所有的儿女都起来安慰他，他却不肯受安慰，说：“我一定会悲哀地下阴间，到我儿子那里。”约瑟的父亲就为约瑟哀哭。
