Then Jephthah sent messengers to the Ammonite king with the question:“ What do you have against me that you have attacked my country?”

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, with the challenge:“ Come, let us face each other in battle.”But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah:“ A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?”Amaziah, however, would not listen, so Jehoash king of Israel attacked. He and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth Shemesh in Judah.Judah was routed by Israel, and every man fled to his home. (niv)

Israel sent messengers to say to Sihon king of the Amorites: (niv)

“ If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that‘ every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ (niv)
