Then Jephthah sent messengers to the Ammonite king with the question:“ What do you have against me that you have attacked my country?”

“于是，我从基底莫旷野派使者去见希实本王西宏，提出和平的建议，说，

不可鲁莽地打官司，以免败诉、羞愧难当。遇到跟邻舍争讼，不可泄露其秘密，

摩西从加低斯派使者去见以东王，说：“你的弟兄以色列人说，你知道我们遭遇的种种困难。

“你们进攻一座城之前，要先给城中居民求和的机会。如果他们开城投降，城里所有的人都要做你们的奴隶，为你们服劳役。

后来，亚玛谢差遣使者对耶户的孙子、约哈斯的儿子、以色列王约阿施说：“来，我们战场上见。”以色列王约阿施派人对犹大王亚玛谢说：“黎巴嫩的蒺藜派使者去对黎巴嫩的香柏树说，‘将你女儿嫁给我儿子吧。’后来黎巴嫩的一只野兽经过，把那蒺藜践踏在脚下。你打败了以东人就趾高气扬，还是待在家里庆祝胜利吧，何必惹祸上身，使你和犹大一同灭亡呢？”但亚玛谢不理会他的劝告。于是，以色列王约阿施起兵攻打犹大王亚玛谢，两王会战于犹大的伯·示麦。犹大人被以色列人打败，兵将都各自逃回家去了。

以色列人派使者去见亚摩利王西宏，说：

“如果你的弟兄得罪了你，你要找个机会跟他单独在一起，指出他的错处。如果他肯接受劝告，你就得了一位弟兄。如果他不听劝告，你就带一两位弟兄去见他，让两三个人为谈话作证。
