基列的人民和眾領袖彼此說：“誰先去攻打亞捫人，誰就可以作基列所有居民的首領。

基列的民和众首领彼此商议说：“谁能先去攻打亚扪人，谁必作基列一切居民的领袖。”

基列百姓中的领袖彼此说：“谁领先出去攻打亚扪人，谁就作基列所有居民的领袖。”

基列百姓中的领袖彼此说：“谁领先出去攻打亚扪人，谁就作基列所有居民的领袖。”

基列的首领们彼此商议说：“谁先攻打亚扪人，谁就做所有基列人的首领。”

基列的人民和众领袖彼此说：“谁先去攻打亚扪人，谁就可以作基列所有居民的首领。

基列的民和眾首領彼此商議說：「誰能先去攻打亞捫人，誰必作基列一切居民的領袖。」

基列百姓中的領袖彼此說：「誰領先出去攻打亞捫人，誰就作基列所有居民的領袖。」

基列百姓中的領袖彼此說：「誰領先出去攻打亞捫人，誰就作基列所有居民的領袖。」

基列的首領們彼此商議說：「誰先攻打亞捫人，誰就做所有基列人的首領。」

基列的人民、基列的首領、就彼此說：『哪一個人能先去攻打亞捫人，那一個人就可以做基列一切居民的首領。』

基列民之牧伯相議曰、誰先戰亞捫人、彼必為基列民長、

基列民及其長相議曰、誰先戰亞捫族、必為基列民之牧。

基列之民及諸牧伯相議曰、誰先戰亞捫人、必為基列一切居民之首、

The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other,“ Whoever will take the lead in attacking the Ammonites will be head over all who live in Gilead.”

The leaders of Gilead spoke to one another. They said,“ Who will lead the attack against the Ammonites? That person will be the ruler of all the people who live in Gilead.”

And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another,“ Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

The leaders of Gilead said to each other,“ Whoever attacks the Ammonites first will become ruler over all the people of Gilead.”

The rulers of Gilead said to one another,“ Which man will begin the fight against the Ammonites? He will be the leader of all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another,“ Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon? He shall become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another,“ Who is the man who will begin the fight against the people of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

And the people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

The rulers of Gilead said to one another,“ Which man will lead the fight against the Ammonites? He will be the leader of all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

And the people[ and] princes of Gilead said one to another, What man[ is he] that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

The leaders of Gilead said to one another,“ Who is willing to lead the charge against the Ammonites? He will become the leader of all who live in Gilead!”

The people, the princes of Gilead, said to one another,“ Who is the man who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

於是耶弗他與基列的長老一同回去了，眾人就立耶弗他作他們的首領，作他們的統帥；耶弗他在米斯巴，在耶和華面前，把自己的一切話都說了出來。

以色列人彼此說：“這個上來的人你們看見了嗎？他上來是要向以色列人罵陣的。如果有人能擊殺他，王必賞賜他大財富，把自己的女兒給他作妻子，並且使他的父家在以色列中免納稅，免服役。”

看哪！主萬軍之耶和華，快要從耶路撒冷和猶大，除掉人所倚靠的和所倚賴的，就是眾人所倚靠的糧，眾人所倚賴的水；除掉勇士和戰士、審判官和先知、占卜的和長老、五十夫長和尊貴的人、謀士和有技藝的工人，以及精通法術的。我必使孩童作他們的領袖，使嬰孩管轄他們。人民必互相壓迫，人欺壓人，也欺壓自己的鄰舍；年輕人要欺凌老年人，卑賤人必欺凌尊貴人。人若在父家裡，拉住自己一個兄弟，說：“你有一件外衣，你就作我們的官長吧！這敗落的事就歸你的手處理。”那時，那人必高聲說：“我不作醫治你們的人，（“醫治你們的人”直譯是“包紥創傷的”）因為我家裡沒有糧食，也沒有外衣，你們不要立我作人民的官長。”耶路撒冷敗落，猶大傾倒，是因為他們的舌頭和行為都敵對耶和華，惹怒了他那充滿榮光的眼目。

約書亞死後，以色列人求問耶和華說：“誰要為我們首先去攻打迦南人，與他們作戰呢？”

耶弗他治理以色列人共六年；基列人耶弗他死了以後，埋葬在基列其中的一座城裡。

亞捫人與以色列人爭戰的時候，基列的眾長老就去，把耶弗他從陀伯請回來。他們對耶弗他說：“請你來作我們的統帥，我們好攻打亞捫人。”耶弗他對基列的長老說：“從前你們不是恨我，趕逐我離開我的父家嗎？現在你們遭遇患難的時候，為甚麼到我這裡來呢？”基列的長老對耶弗他說：“現在我們回到你這裡來，是要你與我們一同回去，與亞捫人爭戰，你要作我們基列所有居民的首領。”

它的顯貴一個也沒有了，以致不能稱為一國，所有的領袖也沒有了。
