The descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, the Kenite, went up from the City of Palms with the people of Judah to live among the inhabitants of the Desert of Judah in the Negev near Arad.

Moses’ father- in- law was a Kenite. His family went up from Jericho. Jericho was also known as the City of Palm Trees. His family went up with the people of Judah to the Desert of Judah. They went there to live among its people. Those people were living in the Negev Desert near Arad.

And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad, and they went and settled with the people.

When the tribe of Judah left Jericho— the city of palms— the Kenites, who were descendants of Moses’ father in law, traveled with them into the wilderness of Judah. They settled among the people there, near the town of Arad in the Negev.

Now the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the City of Date Palm Trees to Arad in the desert of Judah, located in the Negev. They went and lived with the people of Judah.

The children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother- in- law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.

Then Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father in law,“ We are setting out to the place of which the Lord said,‘ I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will do you good, for the Lord has promised good concerning Israel.”But he said to him,“ I will not come, but rather will go to my own land and relatives.”Then he said,“ Please do not leave us, since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will be as eyes for us.So it will be, if you go with us, that whatever good the Lord does for us, we will do for you.”

Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab the father in law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.

When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and took some of them captive.

But Saul said to the Kenites,“ Go, get away, go down from among the Amalekites, so that I do not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the sons of Israel when they went up from Egypt.” So the Kenites got away from among the Amalekites.

and the Negev and the territory in the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

And he gathered to himself the sons of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and defeated Israel, and they took possession of the city of the palm trees.

Now Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

Then Moses departed and returned to his father in law Jethro, and said to him,“ Please, let me go, that I may return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses,“ Go in peace.”

Now Moses was pasturing the flock of his father in law Jethro, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

“ Go to the house of the Rechabites and speak to them, and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.”

Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard about everything that God had done for Moses and for Israel His people, how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt.

At that time King Ahaz sent word to the kings of Assyria for help.

Then Moses went out to meet his father in law, and he bowed down and kissed him; and they asked each other about their welfare, and went into the tent.

And he looked at the Kenite, and took up his discourse and said,“ Your dwelling place is enduring, And your nest is set in the cliff.Nevertheless Kain will suffer devastation; How long will Asshur keep you captive?”

Then Moses said goodbye to his father in law, and Jethro went his way to his own land.

Then Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat a meal with Moses’ father in law before God.

Now when Moses’ father in law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said,“ What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”Moses said to his father in law,“ Because the people come to me to inquire of God.When they have a dispute, it comes to me, and I judge between someone and his neighbor and make known the statutes of God and His laws.”Moses’ father in law then said to him,“ The thing that you are doing is not good.
