After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord,“ Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Canaanites?”

Joshua died. After that, the Israelites spoke to the Lord. They asked him,“ Who of us will go up first and fight against the Canaanites?”

The children of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God. They asked,“ Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said,“ Judah first.”

and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying,“ Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said,“ Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”

Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said,“ I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.He inquired of Yahweh for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

After these things, Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old.They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod here.”Then David said,“ O Yahweh, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

Manasseh didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

You shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before Yahweh. Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before Yahweh continually.

Now these are the nations which Yahweh left, to test Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at least those who knew nothing of it before:the five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entrance of Hamath.They were left to test Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to Yahweh’s commandments, which he commanded their fathers by Moses.The children of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.They took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.
