You have lived an easy life on earth. You have given yourselves everything you wanted. You have made yourselves fat like cattle that will soon be butchered.

You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

You have lived luxuriously on the earth and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

You have lived for pleasure on the earth and lived luxuriously; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter.

You have lived luxuriously on the land and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter.

But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.

By your hand save me from such people, Lord, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones.

treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

“ Today I fulfilled my vows, and I have food from my fellowship offering at home.

“ Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself,‘ I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.’

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

The Lord says,“ The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.

You lie on beds adorned with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves.You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments.You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine.They have harps and lyres at their banquets, pipes and timbrels and wine, but they have no regard for the deeds of the Lord, no respect for the work of his hands.

“ Come,” each one cries,“ let me get wine! Let us drink our fill of beer! And tomorrow will be like today, or even far better.”

Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.

And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair,“ Come, gather together for the great supper of God,so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”

Give her as much torment and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts,‘ I sit enthroned as queen. I am not a widow; I will never mourn.’

You who are young, be happy while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits.
