耶穌鑒其誠、乃謂癱者曰：『小子、爾罪赦矣。』會經生數人在坐、心竊議之曰：『異哉斯人之言、何其僭妄之甚也！捨天主外、誰能赦罪者？』耶穌立燭其意、曰：『爾心何為竊議？或謂癱者曰：「爾罪赦矣、」或曰：「起攜褥行、」孰易？第欲爾曹知人子在世、自有赦罪之權耳。』乃顧謂癱者曰：『命汝起、攜褥歸。』

耶穌曰：『宜信天主、吾實語爾、人但能無餒於心、篤信所言必成、即命此山自移而投於海、亦必予成。故吾語爾、禱時無論何求、宜自信必得、則必予爾。

爾中弱者病者既多、死者亦復不少、坐是故耳。吾人當初若能善自檢點、則亦何至如此受罪。然今之受罪、即主之所以鍛鍊吾人、以免與世同科耳。

時一痿者臥榻中、人舁之以至、耶穌鑒其信、謂痿者曰：『小子、安心、爾罪赦矣。』經生輩腹誹曰：『斯人言何僭妄！』耶穌燭其意曰：『何腹誹為？或謂「爾罪赦、」或謂「起而行、」孰易？第欲爾知人子在世、自有赦罪之權耳。』乃謂痿者曰：『起、攜榻而歸。』

後耶穌遇之殿中、諭之曰：『汝茲已見康復、勿再犯罪、恐後患有甚焉者！』

天主在教會內所建立者、一為宗徒、二為先知、三為教師、次則聖蹟、異能、醫道賑濟、管理、及各種方言；豈能皆為宗徒、皆為先知、皆為教師、皆施聖蹟、皆行醫道、皆操方言、皆作繙譯者哉？
