Come now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.

嗐！你们这些富足人哪，应当哭泣、号啕，因为将有苦难临到你们身上。

你们富有的人哪，应当为那将要临到你们的灾祸哭泣哀号。

现在来吧，你们这些富有的人哪！应当为那些将要临到你们的惨祸而痛哭、哀号！

嗐！你們這些富足人哪，應當哭泣、號咷，因為將有苦難臨到你們身上。

注意！你們這些富足人哪，要為將要臨到你們身上的災難哭泣、號咷。

注意！你們這些富足人哪，要為將要臨到你們身上的災難哭泣、號咷。

你們這些富有的人啊！為那將要臨到你們身上的災難痛哭哀號吧！

你們富有的人哪，應當為那將要臨到你們的災禍哭泣哀號。

來，如今請注意！富足的人哪，應當因你們的慘難、那將要臨到的慘難、來哭泣號咷。

現在來吧，你們這些富有的人哪！應當為那些將要臨到你們的慘禍而痛哭、哀號！

噫、富者歟、宜悲泣號咷、因苦難將臨於爾也、

富者當思將來之苦而號泣、

噫、富者乎、當哀哭號泣、因苦難將臨爾也、

咄咄富人、爾其休矣、災禍將臨爾身、爾盍哀號痛哭乎！

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you.

You rich people, listen to me. Cry and weep, because you will soon be suffering.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.

Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you.

One who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.

But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

This is what the Lord says:“ Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches;

Wail, for the day of the Lord is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

Riches do not benefit on the day of wrath, But righteousness rescues from death.

You indeed put them on slippery ground; You dropped them into ruin.How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when stirred, You will despise their image.

But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full.Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.

Come now, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.”

For I was envious of the arrogant As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.For there are no pains in their death, And their belly is fat.They are not in trouble like other people, Nor are they tormented together with the rest of mankind.Therefore arrogance is their necklace; The garment of violence covers them.Their eye bulges from fatness; The imaginations of their heart overflow.They mock and wickedly speak of oppression; They speak from on high.They have set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue parades through the earth.

For the rich people of the city are full of violence, Her residents speak lies, And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

They captured fortified cities and a fertile land. They took possession of houses full of every good thing, Carved out cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, Fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled and put on fat, And lived luxuriously in Your great goodness.“ But they became rebellious and revolted against You, And threw Your Law behind their backs And killed Your prophets who had admonished them In order to bring them back to You, And they committed great blasphemies.

For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so also the rich person, in the midst of his pursuits, will die out.

But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?

He swallows riches, But will vomit them up; God will expel them from his belly.He sucks the poison of cobras; The viper’s tongue kills him.He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds.He returns the product of his labor And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them.For he has oppressed and neglected the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.“ Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.In the fullness of his excess he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And rain it on him while he is eating.He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.It is drawn and comes out of his back, Even the flashing point from his gallbladder; Terrors come upon him,Complete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.The heavens will reveal his guilt, And the earth will rise up against him.The increase of his house will disappear; His possessions will flow away on the day of His anger.This is a wicked person’s portion from God, The inheritance decreed to him by God.”

And He told them a parable, saying,“ The land of a rich man was very productive.And he began thinking to himself, saying,‘ What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’And he said,‘ This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there.And I will say to myself,“ You have many goods stored up for many years to come; relax, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!” ’But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’Such is the one who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich in relation to God.”

“ But Jeshurun became fat and kicked— You have become fat, thick, and obstinate— Then he abandoned God who made him, And rejected the Rock of his salvation.

otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, and you build good houses and live in them,and when your herds and your flocks increase, and your silver and gold increase, and everything that you have increases,then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;

Neither their silver nor their gold Will be able to save them On the day of the Lord’s anger; And all the earth will be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make a complete end, Indeed a horrifying one, Of all the inhabitants of the earth.

“ Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself in splendor every day.And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,and longing to be fed from the scraps which fell from the rich man’s table; not only that, the dogs also were coming and licking his sores.Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s arms; and the rich man also died and was buried.And in Hades he raised his eyes, being in torment, and* saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his arms.And he cried out and said,‘ Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’But Abraham said,‘ Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.

Be ashamed, you farm workers, Wail, you vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field is destroyed.

and say,‘ What was your mother? A lioness among lions! She lay down among young lions, She raised her cubs.

Wail, juniper, because the cedar has fallen, For the magnificent trees have been destroyed; Wail, oaks of Bashan, Because the impenetrable forest has come down.There is a sound of the shepherds’ wail, For their splendor is ruined; There is a sound of the young lions’ roar, For the pride of the Jordan is ruined.

Who drink wine from sacred bowls While they anoint themselves with the finest of oils— Yet they have not grieved over the collapse of Joseph.Therefore, they will now go into exile at the head of the exiles, And the revelry of those who lounge around will come to an end.

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches?No one can by any means redeem another Or give God a ransom for him—For the redemption of his soul is priceless, And he should cease imagining forever—That he might live on eternally, That he might not undergo decay.For he sees that even wise people die; The foolish and the stupid alike perish And leave their wealth to others.Their inner thought is that their houses are forever And their dwelling places to all generations; They have named their lands after their own names.But man in his splendor will not endure; He is like the animals that perish.This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words. SelahLike sheep they sink down to Sheol; Death will be their shepherd; And the upright will rule over them in the morning, And their form shall be for Sheol to consume So that they have no lofty home.But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me. SelahDo not be afraid when a person becomes rich, When the splendor of his house is increased;For when he dies, he will take nothing with him; His wealth will not descend after him.Though while he lives he congratulates himself— And though people praise you when you do well for yourself—He will go to the generation of his fathers; They will never see the light.Mankind in its splendor, yet without understanding, Is like the animals that perish.

Therefore on that day the Lord God of armies called you to weeping, to wailing, To shaving the head, and to wearing sackcloth.Instead, there is joy and jubilation, Killing of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, Eating of meat and drinking of wine:“ Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die.”

There is a sickening evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth being hoarded by its owner to his detriment.When that wealth was lost through bad business and he had fathered a son, then there was nothing to support him.

And Jesus said to His disciples,“ Truly I say to you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

Put on sackcloth And mourn, you priests; Wail, you ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth, You ministers of my God, For the grain offering and the drink offering Have been withheld from the house of your God.

From people by Your hand, Lord, From people of the world, whose portion is in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children, And leave their abundance to their babies.

Be miserable, and mourn, and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into gloom.

But Jesus turned to them and said,“ Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.For behold, days are coming when they will say,‘ Blessed are those who cannot bear, and the wombs that have not given birth, and the breasts that have not nursed.’

Awake, you heavy drinkers, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, Because of the sweet wine, For it has been eliminated from your mouth.

Then the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains;and they* said to the mountains and the rocks,“ Fall on us and hide us from the sight of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;for the great day of Their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

For this, put on sackcloth, Mourn and wail; For the fierce anger of the Lord Has not turned away from us.”
