你們富有的人哪，應當為那將要臨到你們的災禍哭泣哀號。

來，如今請注意！富足的人哪，應當因你們的慘難、那將要臨到的慘難、來哭泣號咷。

現在來吧，你們這些富有的人哪！應當為那些將要臨到你們的慘禍而痛哭、哀號！

噫、富者歟、宜悲泣號咷、因苦難將臨於爾也、

富者當思將來之苦而號泣、

噫、富者乎、當哀哭號泣、因苦難將臨爾也、

咄咄富人、爾其休矣、災禍將臨爾身、爾盍哀號痛哭乎！

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you.

You rich people, listen to me. Cry and weep, because you will soon be suffering.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.

Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you.

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (niv)

This is what the Lord says:“ Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, (niv)

Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. (niv)

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. (niv)

Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin.How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors!They are like a dream when one awakes; when you arise, Lord, you will despise them as fantasies. (niv)

“ But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. (niv)

Now listen, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” (niv)

For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong.They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills.Therefore pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence.From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits.They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression.Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth. (niv)

Your rich people are violent; your inhabitants are liars and their tongues speak deceitfully. (niv)

They captured fortified cities and fertile land; they took possession of houses filled with all kinds of good things, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves and fruit trees in abundance. They ate to the full and were well-nourished; they reveled in your great goodness.“ But they were disobedient and rebelled against you; they turned their backs on your law. They killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you; they committed awful blasphemies. (niv)

For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business. (niv)

But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? (niv)

He will spit out the riches he swallowed; God will make his stomach vomit them up.He will suck the poison of serpents; the fangs of an adder will kill him.He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream.What he toiled for he must give back uneaten; he will not enjoy the profit from his trading.For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build.“ Surely he will have no respite from his craving; he cannot save himself by his treasure.Nothing is left for him to devour; his prosperity will not endure.In the midst of his plenty, distress will overtake him; the full force of misery will come upon him.When he has filled his belly, God will vent his burning anger against him and rain down his blows on him.Though he flees from an iron weapon, a bronze-tipped arrow pierces him.He pulls it out of his back, the gleaming point out of his liver. Terrors will come over him;total darkness lies in wait for his treasures. A fire unfanned will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.The heavens will expose his guilt; the earth will rise up against him.A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God’s wrath.Such is the fate God allots the wicked, the heritage appointed for them by God.” (niv)

And he told them this parable:“ The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest.He thought to himself,‘ What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’“ Then he said,‘ This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.And I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’“ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” (niv)

Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, they became heavy and sleek. They abandoned the God who made them and rejected the Rock their Savior. (niv)

Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. (niv)

Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath.” In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth. (niv)

“ There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with soresand longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.“ The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.So he called to him,‘ Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’“ But Abraham replied,‘ Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. Despair, you farmers, wail, you vine growers; grieve for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed. (niv)

and say:“‘ What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay down among them and reared her cubs. (niv)

Wail, you juniper, for the cedar has fallen; the stately trees are ruined! Wail, oaks of Bashan; the dense forest has been cut down!Listen to the wail of the shepherds; their rich pastures are destroyed! Listen to the roar of the lions; the lush thicket of the Jordan is ruined! (niv)

You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile; your feasting and lounging will end. (niv)

those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches?No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them—the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough—so that they should live on forever and not see decay.For all can see that the wise die, that the foolish and the senseless also perish, leaving their wealth to others.Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves.People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings.They are like sheep and are destined to die; death will be their shepherd( but the upright will prevail over them in the morning). Their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions.But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself.Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases;for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.Though while they live they count themselves blessed— and people praise you when you prosper—they will join those who have gone before them, who will never again see the light of life.People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish. (niv)

The Lord, the Lord Almighty, called you on that day to weep and to wail, to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth.But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine!“ Let us eat and drink,” you say,“ for tomorrow we die!” (niv)

I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners,or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when they have children there is nothing left for them to inherit. (niv)

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (niv)

Put on sackcloth, you priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God; for the grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God. (niv)

By your hand save me from such people, Lord, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones. (niv)

Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. (niv)

Jesus turned and said to them,“ Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.For the time will come when you will say,‘ Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ (niv)

Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine; wail because of the new wine, for it has been snatched from your lips. (niv)

Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.They called to the mountains and the rocks,“ Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” (niv)

So put on sackcloth, lament and wail, for the fierce anger of the Lord has not turned away from us. (niv)
