近天主、則天主必近爾、爾有罪者當盥手、爾懷二心者當潔心、

親近天主、則天主必殷勤相愛矣。吾願作惡者皆洗濯其手、而二三其德者皆純潔其心也。

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him:“ Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

Come, and let us return to the Lord; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight.

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.“ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil,

O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, That you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

There is also an antitype which now saves us— baptism( not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

“ As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.

But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works.

“ Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;

He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,

The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.

Therefore the Lord said:“ Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

Yet the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger.

he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Although no violence is in my hands, And my prayer is pure.

I will wash my hands in innocence; So I will go about Your altar, O Lord,

Then the Lord said to him,“ Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness.Foolish ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?

and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

And Abraham came near and said,“ Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

“ Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”

At that time it will be said To this people and to Jerusalem,“ A dry wind of the desolate heights blows in the wilderness Toward the daughter of My people— Not to fan or to cleanse—

If I wash myself with snow water, And cleanse my hands with soap,

Everyone who is found will be thrust through, And everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.

When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying,“ I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.”

Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, And washed my hands in innocence.
