You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (niv)

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (niv)

There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.“ For whom am I toiling,” he asked,“ and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business! (niv)

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you.Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. (niv)

Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it. (niv)

indeed, wine betrays him; he is arrogant and never at rest. Because he is as greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples. (niv)

But Ahaz said,“ I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.” (niv)
