爾中之戰鬥爭競、奚自哉、非自戰於爾百體中之慾乎、

戰鬥爭競、何自而來、非欲戰於中而生乎、

爾中戰鬥爭競、何自而來、非自戰於爾百體中之慾乎、

爾中一切鬥爭紛擾、果何由而起？非由爾之情慾交戰於內乎？

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?

What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from the cravings that are at war within you?

From whence[ come] wars and fightings among you?[ come they] not hence,[ even] of your lusts that war in your members?

Where do the conflicts and where do the quarrels among you come from? Is it not from this, from your passions that battle inside you?

Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and exiles to abstain from sinful desires that wage war against the soul.

but I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire.

You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable— who can understand it?

For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders,adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, self-indulgence, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.All these evil things come from within and defile a person.”

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.

Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.

For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slander.

These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.But you, dear friends, remember what was predicted by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.They told you,“ In the end time there will be scoffers living according to their own ungodly desires.”

But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and deny the truth.Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions aroused through the law were working in us to bear fruit for death.

The mindset of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so.

Above all, be aware of this: Scoffers will come in the last days scoffing and following their own evil desires,

he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in disputes and arguments over words. From these come envy, quarreling, slander, evil suspicions,and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.But godliness with contentment is great gain.For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out.If we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
