    過了不久,有一股叫「友拉革羅」的東北巨風從島上撲來,船被風抓住,無法頂風航行,我們只好任它漂流。我們貼着一個叫高大的小島的背風岸急航,好不容易才保住了救生艇。既然把救生艇拉上來,他們就用纜索捆綁船底,又恐怕在賽耳底淺灘上擱淺,就落了篷,任船漂流。我們被風浪逼得很急,第二天眾人就把貨物拋在海裏。第三天,他們又親手把船上的器具拋棄了。許多天都沒有看到太陽和星辰,又有狂風大浪催逼,我們獲救的指望都放棄了。眾人已有好幾天沒有吃東西,保羅就出來站在他們中間,說:「諸位,你們本該聽我的話不離開克里特島,就不致遭到這樣的損失和破壞。現在我勸你們放心,除了損失這條船,你們中間沒有一人會喪失性命。因為昨夜,我所屬所事奉的神的使者站在我旁邊,說:『保羅,不要害怕,你必定站在凱撒面前;並且神已把安全賜給與你同船的人了。』所以,諸位可以放心,我信神怎樣對我說,事情也要怎樣成就;只是我們必須在一個島上擱淺。」到了第十四天夜間,船在亞得里亞海漂來漂去。約在半夜,水手以為漸近旱地,就去探測深淺,探得有十二丈;稍往前行,又探深淺,探得有九丈。恐怕我們撞到礁石,他們就從船尾拋下四個錨,盼望天亮。水手想棄船逃走,把救生艇縋下海裏,假裝要從船頭拋錨的樣子。保羅對百夫長和士兵說:「這些人若不留在船上,你們就不能獲救。」於是士兵砍斷救生艇的繩子,由它漂去。天快亮的時候,保羅勸眾人都用餐,說:「你們一直捱餓等候,不吃甚麼,已經十四天了。所以我勸你們吃點東西,這是關乎你們獲救的,因為你們各人連一根頭髮也不至於掉落。」保羅說了這話,就拿起餅來,在眾人面前祝謝了神,然後擘開來吃。於是他們都放心,就吃了。我們在船上的共有二百七十六個人。他們吃飽了,為要使船輕一點,就把船上的麥子拋到海裏。
