    过了不久,有一股叫“友拉革罗”的东北巨风从岛上扑来,船被风抓住,无法顶风航行,我们只好任它漂流。我们贴着一个叫高大的小岛的背风岸急航,好不容易才保住了救生艇。既然把救生艇拉上来,他们就用缆索捆绑船底,又恐怕在赛耳底浅滩上搁浅,就落了篷,任船漂流。我们被风浪逼得很急,第二天众人就把货物抛在海里。第三天,他们又亲手把船上的器具抛弃了。许多天都没有看到太阳和星辰,又有狂风大浪催逼,我们获救的指望都放弃了。众人已有好几天没有吃东西,保罗就出来站在他们中间,说:“诸位,你们本该听我的话不离开克里特岛,就不致遭到这样的损失和破坏。现在我劝你们放心,除了损失这条船,你们中间没有一人会丧失性命。因为昨夜,我所属所事奉的神的使者站在我旁边,说:‘保罗,不要害怕,你必定站在凯撒面前;并且神已把安全赐给与你同船的人了。’所以,诸位可以放心,我信神怎样对我说,事情也要怎样成就;只是我们必须在一个岛上搁浅。”到了第十四天夜间,船在亚得里亚海漂来漂去。约在半夜,水手以为渐近旱地,就去探测深浅,探得有十二丈;稍往前行,又探深浅,探得有九丈。恐怕我们撞到礁石,他们就从船尾抛下四个锚,盼望天亮。水手想弃船逃走,把救生艇缒下海里,假装要从船头抛锚的样子。保罗对百夫长和士兵说:“这些人若不留在船上,你们就不能获救。”于是士兵砍断救生艇的绳子,由它漂去。天快亮的时候,保罗劝众人都用餐,说:“你们一直捱饿等候,不吃什么,已经十四天了。所以我劝你们吃点东西,这是关乎你们获救的,因为你们各人连一根头发也不至于掉落。”保罗说了这话,就拿起饼来,在众人面前祝谢了神,然后擘开来吃。于是他们都放心,就吃了。我们在船上的共有二百七十六个人。他们吃饱了,为要使船轻一点,就把船上的麦子抛到海里。
