But you dishonor the poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?

何以爾反辱貧者乎、富者非挾制爾、拘曳爾、以至公庭乎、

爾竟辱貧人、富者非欺壓爾、曳爾至公庭乎、

而爾等竟敢輕慢貧人！夫富人非即以勢凌爾、扭爾以至公庭者乎？

But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?

You have condemned and killed innocent people, who do not resist you.

But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison.

Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.

Those who mock the poor insult their Maker; those who rejoice at the misfortune of others will be punished.

The Lord replies,“ I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.”

You trample the poor, stealing their grain through taxes and unfair rent. Therefore, though you build beautiful stone houses, you will never live in them. Though you plant lush vineyards, you will never drink wine from them.

But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.

The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’“ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

A person who gets ahead by oppressing the poor or by showering gifts on the rich will end in poverty.

If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one,“ You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor”— well,

The Lord comes forward to pronounce judgment on the elders and rulers of his people:“ You have ruined Israel, my vineyard. Your houses are filled with things stolen from the poor.How dare you crush my people, grinding the faces of the poor into the dust?” demands the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.

Listen to me, you fat cows living in Samaria, you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy, and who are always calling to your husbands,“ Bring us another drink!”

A poor, wise man knew how to save the town, and so it was rescued. But afterward no one thought to thank him.So even though wisdom is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor. What they say will not be appreciated for long.

This is what the Lord says:“ The people of Israel have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They sell honorable people for silver and poor people for a pair of sandals.They trample helpless people in the dust and shove the oppressed out of the way. How can I tolerate your merchants who use dishonest scales and weights?The rich among you have become wealthy through extortion and violence. Your citizens are so used to lying that their tongues can no longer tell the truth.

They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people. They are always searching for helpless victims.

Don’t be surprised if you see a poor person being oppressed by the powerful and if justice is being miscarried throughout the land. For every official is under orders from higher up, and matters of justice get lost in red tape and bureaucracy.

With his own weapons, you destroyed the chief of those who rushed out like a whirlwind, thinking Israel would be easy prey.

The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.

You measure out grain with dishonest measures and cheat the buyer with dishonest scales.And you mix the grain you sell with chaff swept from the floor. Then you enslave poor people for one piece of silver or a pair of sandals.

The captain went with his Temple guards and arrested the apostles, but without violence, for they were afraid the people would stone them.Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest confronted them.

While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees.These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead.They arrested them and, since it was already evening, put them in jail until morning.

For they oppressed the poor and left them destitute. They foreclosed on their homes.
