And the scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

That is what Scripture means where it says,“ Abraham believed God. God accepted Abraham because he believed. So his faith made him right with God.”( Genesis 15:6) And that’s not all. God called Abraham his friend.

For what does the scripture say?“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”Now to the one who works, his pay is not credited due to grace but due to obligation.But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous, his faith is credited as righteousness.So even David himself speaks regarding the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

So indeed it was credited to Abraham as righteousness.But the statement it was credited to him was not written only for Abraham’s sake,but also for our sake, to whom it will be credited, those who believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

No one has greater love than this– that one lays down his life for his friends.You are my friends if you do what I command you.I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father.

The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, the way a person speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his servant, Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the tent.

And they crucified two outlaws with him, one on his right and one on his left.

Then he began to tell them,“ Today this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.”

and he contends with God on behalf of man as a man pleads for his friend.

Have you not read this scripture:‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

For the scripture says to Pharaoh:“ For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may demonstrate my power in you, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.”

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the gospel to Abraham ahead of time, saying,“ All the nations will be blessed in you.”So then those who believe are blessed along with Abraham the believer.For all who rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law.”

God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew! Do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

How then was it credited to him? Was he circumcised at the time, or not? No, he was not circumcised but uncircumcised!And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised, so that he would become the father of all those who believe but have never been circumcised, that they too could have righteousness credited to them.

“ Brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold through David concerning Judas– who became the guide for those who arrested Jesus–

But the scripture imprisoned everything and everyone under sin so that the promise could be given– because of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ– to those who believe.

Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

For it says in scripture,“ Look, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen and priceless cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will never be put to shame.”
