人自謂虔共、如不捫厥舌、乃迷厥心、則其虔共徒然、

若有人自以为虔诚，却不勒住他的舌头，反欺哄自己的心，这人的虔诚是虚的。

若有人自以为虔诚，却不勒住自己的舌头，反欺骗自己的心，这人的虔诚是徒然的。

若有人自以为虔诚，却不勒住自己的舌头，反欺骗自己的心，这人的虔诚是徒然的。

如果有人自以為是虔誠的，卻不克制自己的舌頭，反而欺騙自己的心，這個人的虔誠就是虛妄的。

人若自以為虔敬、而不捫其舌、自欺其心、其虔敬虛矣、

若爾中有人自以為虔敬、而不制其舌、自欺其心、此人之虔敬徒然、

若有人自以為虔誠、而不能自制其舌、是為欺心之人、其虔誠偽也。

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

Suppose people think their beliefs and how they live are both right. But they don’t control what they say. Then they are fooling themselves. Their beliefs and way of life are not worth anything at all.

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, his religion is useless and he deceives himself.

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.

If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, then his religion is useless and he deceives himself.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion[ is] vain.

If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.

耶和華兮、使余守口、防所出之言兮、

惡言勿出於口、言必善以輔德、益諸聽者、

凡欲得生而有福、當捫舌勿言惡、緘口勿詭譎、

必也捫汝舌、勿出惡言、緘汝口、勿道詭詐、

吾眾數蹈於愆、言語無愆者、是為德備之人、能自範其身、我置勒馬口、使馬馴服、駕馭無不如志、雖有巨舟、為狂風動盪、而小舵得以運轉、隨舟子指揮、舌雖小而能誇大、薪甚多、微火可燃、舌如火、在百體中、能玷一身、不義孰甚、賦畀之性亦為所爇、是其焰由地獄起、

仁義之口、惟言智慧、頑嚚之舌、斷之勿疑。

言當婉喻、若以鹽調和、則知所以語人矣、

是故聽道宜慎、蓋有者、將與之、無者、即其所自以為有、將奪之、○

不第聞道已也、實踐之、毋自欺、

愚魯而妄言、不如貧乏而純良。

爾當謹恪、勿聽誘惑、違逆耶和華、奉事崇拜他上帝、

予飭我躬、謹我行、不以舌取戾、惡人在側、當箝口而慎言兮。予緘默無詞、雖有昌言、不敢啟齒、惟懷憂兮、

淫辭、浮言、戲謔、則非其宜、務善言、

凡我良朋、宜速聽、宜徐言、宜懲忿、

勿效騾馬之無知兮、彼為人繫以繁纓、勒以轡環、否則不能馴從兮、

怠者終日貪謀、義人博施不吝。

言善者果必結、強暴者災必及。謹言者安、妄談者危。

民視王言若天言、聽訟之時、不可差謬。

爾常言曰、服事上帝、終屬徒勞、我心甚憂、順從萬有之主耶和華、守其法度、何益之有、

多言有咎、拑口為智、

有自以其道為是者、不知其終歸於敗亡。

其有名者、不論何人、於我無與、上帝不以貌取人、要其有名者、與我無所增益、

所教乃人所命、故徒拜我、○

爾守吾言、而信不虛、則以福音得救、

毋徒獻禮物、若馨香、月朔、安息日、聖會大日、俱我所厭棄、爾守節期、又復為惡、故我不悅。

智者工語言、愚者吐妄論。

彼心昏迷、所望成空、若食燼餘而不悟、不知右手所作、悉屬虛妄。

無而為有者、是自欺也、

其所教者、乃人所命、是以徒拜我也、

虛誕之人乎、爾當知信而不行、其信歸於無有、

有自以其道為是者、不知其終歸於敗亡。

毋自欺也、倘有人貌為智干斯世、則寧不智以為智、

死者不甦、則上帝未甦基督、而吾證上帝甦之、則為妄證、

彼三人素有名譽、為教之柱石、知主賜我斯恩、故施其右手、交我及巴拿巴、使我往教異邦人、而彼往教受割者、

爾為斯道、亦既受多苦矣、今若此、不徒然乎、其可徒然歟、
