Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

“ Why do you call Me‘ Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?I will show you what someone is like who comes to Me, hears My words, and acts on them:He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built.

So it is a sin for the person who knows to do what is good and doesn’t do it.

He said,“ Even more, those who hear the word of God and keep it are blessed!”

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can his faith save him?If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily foodand one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?In the same way faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself.But someone will say,“ You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith from my works.You believe that God is one; you do well. The demons also believe— and they shudder.Foolish man! Are you willing to learn that faith without works is useless?

For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, that person is My brother and sister and mother.”

“ Look, I am coming quickly! The one who keeps the prophetic words of this book is blessed.”

And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

“ Not everyone who says to Me,‘ Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.On that day many will say to Me,‘ Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’Then I will announce to them,‘ I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’“ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock.The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great!”

Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap,

If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, then his religion is useless and he deceives himself.

And that slave who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it will be severely beaten.But the one who did not know and did things deserving of blows will be beaten lightly. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. (niv)

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become“ fools” so that you may become wise. (niv)
