But each person is tempted by their own evil desires. These desires lead them on and drag them away.

Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth.”But Naboth replied,“ The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors.”So Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said,“ I will not give you the inheritance of my ancestors.” He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat.

These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart:“ Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

“ You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me, against your helper.

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.
