For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

You set Israel free from Midian long ago. In the same way, you will break the heavy yoke that weighs Israel down. You will break the wooden beams that are on their shoulders. You will break the rods of those who strike them down.

For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.

For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian.

For You will break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders, The rod of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian.

For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian.

I will break Assyria in my land; I will tread him down on my mountain. Then his yoke will be taken from them, and his burden will be removed from their shoulders.

And the LORD of Armies will brandish a whip against him as he did when he struck Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the sea as he did in Egypt.On that day his burden will fall from your shoulders, and his yoke from your neck. The yoke will be broken because your neck will be too large.

For I will now break off his yoke from you and tear off your shackles.

and you will be established on a foundation of righteousness. You will be far from oppression, you will certainly not be afraid; you will be far from terror, it will certainly not come near you.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and with them was their army of about fifteen thousand men, who were all those left of the entire army of the people of the east. On that day— this is the declaration of the LORD of Armies— I will break his yoke from your neck and tear off your chains, and strangers will never again enslave him.

Assyria will be shattered by the voice of the LORD. He will strike with a rod.And every stroke of the appointed staff that the LORD brings down on him will be to the sound of tambourines and lyres; he will fight against him with brandished weapons.

When the LORD gives you rest from your pain, torment, and the hard labor you were forced to do,you will sing this song of contempt about the king of Babylon and say: How the oppressor has quieted down, and how the raging has become quiet!The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers.

I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh, and they will be drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine. Then all humanity will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous will not apply their hands to injustice.

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.

You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. But when you rebel, you will break his yoke from your neck.

Deal with them as you did with Midian, as you did with Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River.They were destroyed at En-dor; they became manure for the ground.Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their tribal leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna,

The Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. So the LORD handed them over to Midian seven years,and they oppressed Israel. Because of Midian, the Israelites made hiding places for themselves in the mountains, caves, and strongholds.Whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites, Amalekites, and the people of the east came and attacked them.They encamped against them and destroyed the produce of the land, even as far as Gaza. They left nothing for Israel to eat, as well as no sheep, ox, or donkey.For the Midianites came with their cattle and their tents like a great swarm of locusts. They and their camels were without number, and they entered the land to lay waste to it.So Israel became poverty-stricken because of Midian, and the Israelites cried out to the LORD.

When Gideon’s men blew their three hundred ram’s horns, the LORD caused the men in the whole army to turn on each other with their swords. They fled to Acacia House in the direction of Zererah as far as the border of Abel-meholah near Tabbath.Then the men of Israel were called from Naphtali, Asher, and Manasseh, and they pursued the Midianites.Gideon sent messengers throughout the hill country of Ephraim with this message:“ Come down to intercept the Midianites and take control of the watercourses ahead of them as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.” So all the men of Ephraim were called out, and they took control of the watercourses as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.They captured Oreb and Zeeb, the two princes of Midian; they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb and Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb, while they were pursuing the Midianites. They brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon across the Jordan.

Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger— the staff in their hands is my wrath.

I was angry with my people; I profaned my possession, and I handed them over to you. You showed them no mercy; you made your yoke very heavy on the elderly.

But you have forgotten the LORD, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You are in constant dread all day long because of the fury of the oppressor, who has set himself to destroy. But where is the fury of the oppressor?
