the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

The elders and important leaders are the heads. The prophets who teach lies are the tails.

the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;

The leaders of Israel are the head, and the lying prophets are the tail.

The head is the elder, the honored one; the tail is the prophet, the one teaching lies.

The head is the elder and esteemed man, And the prophet who teaches falsehood is the tail.

The leaders and the highly respected people are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

the hero and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder,the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor, skilled craftsman and clever enchanter.

The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep: He has sealed your eyes( the prophets); he has covered your heads( the seers).

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage— with great patience and careful instruction.For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

The old prophet answered,“ I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the Lord:‘ Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.’”( But he was lying to him.)

Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives,

But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Concerning the prophets: My heart is broken within me; all my bones tremble. I am like a drunken man, like a strong man overcome by wine, because of the Lord and his holy words.

“ So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.”

Therefore my people will go into exile for lack of understanding; those of high rank will die of hunger and the common people will be parched with thirst.

“ I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say,‘ I had a dream! I had a dream!’How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying lies to you in my name:“ I will deliver them into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will put them to death before your very eyes.Because of them, all the exiles from Judah who are in Babylon will use this curse:‘ May the Lord treat you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned in the fire.’

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

But the servant replied,“ Look, in this town there is a man of God; he is highly respected, and everything he says comes true. Let’s go there now. Perhaps he will tell us what way to take.”

Do not listen to the words of the prophets who say to you,‘ You will not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they are prophesying lies to you.‘ I have not sent them,’ declares the Lord.‘ They are prophesying lies in my name. Therefore, I will banish you and you will perish, both you and the prophets who prophesy to you.’”

“‘ By what means?’ the Lord asked.“‘ I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.“‘ You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord.‘ Go and do it.’“ So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face.“ Which way did the spirit from the Lord go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked.

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?

Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet,“ Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.Therefore this is what the Lord says:‘ I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.’”

Then the Lord said to me,“ The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds.Therefore this is what the Lord says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them, yet they are saying,‘ No sword or famine will touch this land.’ Those same prophets will perish by sword and famine.

People will oppress each other— man against man, neighbor against neighbor. The young will rise up against the old, the nobody against the honored.

The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them— bringing swift destruction on themselves.Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your interpreters of dreams, your mediums or your sorcerers who tell you,‘ You will not serve the king of Babylon.’They prophesy lies to you that will only serve to remove you far from your lands; I will banish you and you will perish.

The word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination:‘ Hear the word of the Lord!This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins.You have not gone up to the breaches in the wall to repair it for the people of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the Lord.Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. Even though the Lord has not sent them, they say,“ The Lord declares,” and expect him to fulfill their words.Have you not seen false visions and uttered lying divinations when you say,“ The Lord declares,” though I have not spoken?“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign Lord.My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.“‘ Because they lead my people astray, saying,“ Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash,therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.When the wall collapses, will people not ask you,“ Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord.So I will pour out my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you,“ The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it,those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Sovereign Lord.”’

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lieand so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.

You have profaned me among my people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live.

And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible: They commit adultery and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that not one of them turns from their wickedness. They are all like Sodom to me; the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah.”Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says concerning the prophets:“ I will make them eat bitter food and drink poisoned water, because from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has spread throughout the land.”

“ Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
