“ As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword; take and use it as a barber’s razor on your head and beard. Then take scales for weighing and divide the hair.A third you shall burn in the fire at the center of the city, when the days of the siege are completed. Then you shall take a third and strike it with the sword all around the city, and a third you shall scatter to the wind; for I will unsheathe a sword behind them.Take also a few hairs in number from them and bind them in the hems of your robes.Take again some of them and throw them into the fire and burn them in the fire; from it a fire will spread to all the house of Israel.

Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria marched against all the fortified cities of Judah and seized them.Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent messengers to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying,“ I have done wrong. Withdraw from me; whatever you impose on me I will endure.” So the king of Assyria imposed on Hezekiah king of Judah the payment of three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.Hezekiah then gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasuries of the king’s house.At that time Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the doorposts, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and he gave it to the king of Assyria.
