Now the house of David was told,“ Aram has allied itself with Ephraim”; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.

The royal family of Ahaz was told,“ The army of Aram has joined forces with Ephraim’s army.” So the hearts of Ahaz and his people trembled with fear. They shook just as trees in the forest shake when the wind blows through them.

When the house of David was told,“ Syria is in league with Ephraim,” the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

The news had come to the royal court of Judah:“ Syria is allied with Israel against us!” So the hearts of the king and his people trembled with fear, like trees shaking in a storm.

When it became known to the house of David that Aram had occupied Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

And it was told to the house of David, saying,“ Syria’s forces are deployed in Ephraim.” So his heart and the heart of his people were moved as the trees of the woods are moved with the wind.

And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

When it became known to the house of David that Aram had occupied Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

It was reported to the family of David,“ Syria has allied with Ephraim.” They and their people were emotionally shaken, just as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

David’s house was told,“ Syria is allied with Ephraim.” His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

Then he said,“ Listen now, house of David! Is it too trivial a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well?

“ You are not to say,‘ It is a conspiracy!’ Regarding everything that this people call a conspiracy, And you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it.

The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion.

And all the people know it, That is, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, Asserting in pride and in arrogance of heart:

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

Then Amaziah dismissed the troops which came to him from Ephraim, to go home; so their anger burned against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

Then some of the leading men of the sons of Ephraim— Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai— rose up against those who were coming from the battle,

And he cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord and said,“ Altar, altar, this is what the Lord says:‘ Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and human bones shall burn on you.’ ”

For the Lord had made the army of the Arameans hear a sound of chariots, a sound of horses, that is, the sound of a great army; and they said to one another,“ Behold, the king of Israel has hired the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians against us, to attack us!”So they got up and fled at twilight, and abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys— indeed the camp itself, just as it was; and they fled for their lives.

‘ For I will protect this city to save it for My own sake, and for My servant David’s sake.’ ”

( but he shall have one tribe, for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel),

Ephraim feeds on wind, And pursues the east wind continually; He multiplies lies and violence. Moreover, he makes a covenant with Assyria, And oil is brought to Egypt.

Therefore their inhabitants were powerless, They were shattered and put to shame; They were like the vegetation of the field and the green grass, Like grass on the housetops that is scorched before it has grown.

When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people replied to the king, saying,“ What share do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; To your tents, Israel! Now look after your own house, David!” So Israel went away to their tents.

Among those nations you will find no peace, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there the Lord will give you a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul.So your lives will be hanging in doubt before you; and you will be terrified night and day, and have no assurance of your life.

house of David, this is what the Lord says:“ Administer justice every morning; And save the person who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor, So that My wrath will not spread like fire And burn, with no one to extinguish it, Because of the evil of their deeds.

The Lord will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim separated from Judah— the days of the king of Assyria.”

He will not fear bad news; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.His heart is firm, he will not fear, But will look with satisfaction on his enemies.

As for those among you who are left, I will also bring despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a scattered leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee as though from the sword, and they will fall.They will then stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand before your enemies.

In the Lord I take refuge; How can you say to my soul,“ Flee as a bird to your mountain?

“ Now you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and write on it,‘ For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions’; then take another stick and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’Then put them together for yourself one to another into one stick, so that they may become one in your hand.And when the sons of your people speak to you, saying,‘ Will you not declare to us what you mean by these?’say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Behold, I am going to take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will put them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.” ’

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom should I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom should I dread?When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.

Then all the congregation raised their voices and cried out, and the people wept that night.And all the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the entire congregation said to them,“ If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or even if we had died in this wilderness!So why is the Lord bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder! Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”

Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”

Yet there will still be a tenth portion in it, And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is cut down. The holy seed is its stump.”

Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, And those who harass Judah will be eliminated; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, And Judah will not harass Ephraim.

Then I will put the key of the house of David on his shoulder; When he opens, no one will shut, When he shuts, no one will open.
