這子民當著我的面不斷地惹我惱怒，他們在園林裡獻祭，在磚頭上燒香；

在於我前、恆激我怒、獻祭於園、焚香於瓦、

彼在我前、恆干震怒、獻祭於園囿、焚香於瓦壇。

斯民於我前、恆干我怒、獻祭於園囿、焚香於磚臺、

a people who continually provoke me to my very face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick;

They are always making me very angry. They do it right in front of me. They offer sacrifices in the gardens of other gods. They burn incense on altars that are made out of bricks.

All day long they insult me to my face by worshiping idols in their sacred gardens. They burn incense on pagan altars.

A people who continually provoke Me to My face, Offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on bricks;

A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; Who sacrifice in gardens, And burn incense on altars of brick;

a people that provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens, and burning incense upon bricks;

These people continually provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in gardens, burning incense on bricks,

A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

These people continually and blatantly offend me as they sacrifice in their sacred orchards and burn incense on brick altars.

Indeed, they will be ashamed of the sacred trees you desired, and you will be embarrassed because of the garden shrines you have chosen.

“ Those who dedicate and purify themselves to enter the groves following their leader, eating meat from pigs, vermin, and rats, will perish together.” This is the LORD’s declaration.

But stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen because they have spoken and acted against the LORD, defying his glorious presence.

They enraged him with their high places and provoked his jealousy with their carved images.

From their youth, the Israelites and Judeans have done nothing but what is evil in my sight! They have done nothing but anger me by the work of their hands”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ for this city has caused my wrath and fury from the day it was built until now. I will therefore remove it from my presencebecause of all the evil the Israelites and Judeans have done to anger me— they, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.They have turned their backs to me and not their faces. Though I taught them time and time again, they do not listen and receive discipline.They have placed their abhorrent things in the house that bears my name and have defiled it.They have built the high places of Baal in Ben Hinnom Valley to sacrifice their sons and daughters in the fire to Molech— something I had not commanded them. I had never entertained the thought that they do this detestable act causing Judah to sin!

In the days of King Josiah the LORD asked me,“ Have you seen what unfaithful Israel has done? She has ascended every high hill and gone under every green tree to prostitute herself there.

They have provoked my jealousy with what is not a god; they have enraged me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with what is not a people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.

They provoked his jealousy with different gods; they enraged him with detestable practices.They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known, new gods that had just arrived, which your ancestors did not fear.You ignored the Rock who gave you birth; you forgot the God who gave birth to you.When the LORD saw this, he despised them, angered by his sons and daughters.

“ You are to make an altar for the burning of incense; make it of acacia wood.It must be square, eighteen inches long and eighteen inches wide; it must be thirty-six inches high. Its horns must be of one piece with it.Overlay its top, all around its sides, and its horns with pure gold; make a gold molding all around it.Make two gold rings for it under the molding on two of its sides; put these on opposite sides of it to be holders for the poles to carry it with.Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.“ You are to place the altar in front of the curtain by the ark of the testimony— in front of the mercy seat that is over the testimony— where I will meet with you.Aaron must burn fragrant incense on it; he must burn it every morning when he tends the lamps.When Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he must burn incense. There is to be an incense offering before the LORD throughout your generations.You must not offer unauthorized incense on it, or a burnt or grain offering; you are not to pour a drink offering on it.“ Once a year Aaron is to perform the atonement ceremony for the altar. Throughout your generations he is to perform the atonement ceremony for it once a year, with the blood of the sin offering for atonement on the horns. The altar is especially holy to the LORD.”

And he said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the detestable acts they are doing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and repeatedly anger me, even putting the branch to their nose?Therefore I will respond with wrath. I will not show pity or spare them. Though they call loudly in my hearing, I will not listen to them.”

because they have abandoned me and burned incense to other gods in order to anger me with all the work of their hands. My wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’

But they would not listen. Instead they became obstinate like their ancestors who did not believe the LORD their God.They rejected his statutes and his covenant he had made with their ancestors and the warnings he had given them. They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves, following the surrounding nations the LORD had commanded them not to imitate.They abandoned all the commands of the LORD their God. They made cast images for themselves, two calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed in worship to all the stars in the sky and served Baal.They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire and practiced divination and interpreted omens. They devoted themselves to do what was evil in the LORD’s sight and angered him.

“ Make an earthen altar for me, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your flocks and herds. I will come to you and bless you in every place where I cause my name to be remembered.If you make a stone altar for me, do not build it out of cut stones. If you use your chisel on it, you will defile it.

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the desert.

When I brought them into the land that I swore to give them and they saw any high hill or leafy tree, they offered their sacrifices and presented their offensive offerings there. They also sent up their pleasing aromas and poured out their drink offerings there.

This is so the Israelites will bring to the LORD the sacrifices they have been offering in the open country. They are to bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting and offer them as fellowship sacrifices to the LORD.

Fill up, then, the measure of your ancestors’ sins!“ Snakes! Brood of vipers! How can you escape being condemned to hell?This is why I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.So all the righteous blood shed on the earth will be charged to you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.Truly I tell you, all these things will come on this generation.
