They will not work in vain, or give birth to children that will experience disaster. For the LORD will bless their children and their descendants.

其所為者不徒勞、其所生者不遘禍、蓋彼為耶和華錫嘏之裔、其子孫亦與共焉、

其所為者不徒勞、所生者不夭殤、蓋我耶和華降以純嘏、爰及子孫。

凡其所為者必不徒勞、所生子女必不夭亡、皆蒙我賜福之人、凡其所生者亦若是、凡其所生者亦若是或作凡其所生者與之同在

They will not labor in vain, nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.

Their work will not be worthless anymore. They will not have children who are sure to face sudden terror. Instead, I will bless them. I will also bless their children after them.

They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord, and their descendants with them.

They will not work in vain, and their children will not be doomed to misfortune. For they are people blessed by the Lord, and their children, too, will be blessed.

They will not labor without success or bear children destined for disaster, for they will be a people blessed by the LORD along with their descendants.

Their descendants will be known among the nations, their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will recognize that the LORD has blessed them.”

But I thought,“ I have worked in vain; I have expended my energy for absolutely nothing.” But the LORD will vindicate me; my God will reward me.

For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”

They will be my people, and I will be their God.I will give them a single-minded purpose to live in a way that always shows respect for me. They will want to do that for their own good and the good of the children who descend from them.

You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the field.Your children will be blessed, as well as the produce of your soil, the offspring of your livestock, the calves of your herds, and the lambs of your flocks.Your basket and your mixing bowl will be blessed.You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.The LORD will cause your enemies who attack you to be struck down before you; they will attack you from one direction but flee from you in seven different directions.The LORD will decree blessing for you with respect to your barns and in everything you do– yes, he will bless you in the land he is giving you.The LORD will designate you as his holy people just as he promised you, if you keep his commandments and obey him.Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you belong to the LORD, and they will respect you.The LORD will greatly multiply your children, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil in the land which he promised your ancestors he would give you.The LORD will open for you his good treasure house, the heavens, to give you rain for the land in its season and to bless all you do; you will lend to many nations but you will not borrow from any.

Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? Why spend your hard-earned money on something that will not satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is nourishing! Enjoy fine food!

May he increase your numbers, yours and your children’s!May you be blessed by the LORD, the creator of heaven and earth!

I will signal for them and gather them, for I have already redeemed them; then they will become as numerous as they were before.Though I scatter them among the nations, they will remember in far-off places– they and their children will sprout forth and return.

The seed is still in the storehouse, isn’t it? And the vine, fig tree, pomegranate, and olive tree have not produced. Nevertheless, from today on I will bless you.’”

nor are all the children Abraham’s true descendants; rather“ through Isaac will your descendants be counted.”This means it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God; rather, the children of promise are counted as descendants.

“‘ If you walk in my statutes and are sure to obey my commandments,I will give you your rains in their time so that the land will give its yield and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.Threshing season will extend for you until the season for harvesting grapes, and the season for harvesting grapes will extend until sowing season, so you will eat your bread until you are satisfied, and you will live securely in your land.I will grant peace in the land so that you will lie down to sleep without anyone terrifying you. I will remove harmful animals from the land, and no sword of war will pass through your land.You will pursue your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword.Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.I will turn to you, make you fruitful, multiply you, and maintain my covenant with you.You will still be eating stored produce from the previous year and will have to clean out what is stored from the previous year to make room for new.

I will confirm my covenant as a perpetual covenant between me and you. It will extend to your descendants after you throughout their generations. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing.

And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but are never filled. You drink, but are still thirsty. You put on clothes, but are not warm. Those who earn wages end up with holes in their money bags.’”

For this reason it is by faith so that it may be by grace, with the result that the promise may be certain to all the descendants– not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who have the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

“ You will take much seed to the field but gather little harvest, because locusts will consume it.You will plant vineyards and cultivate them, but you will not drink wine or gather in grapes, because worms will eat them.You will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with olive oil, because the olives will drop off the trees while still unripe.You will bear sons and daughters but not keep them, because they will be taken into captivity.Whirring locusts will take over every tree and all the produce of your soil.

So then, dear brothers and sisters, be firm. Do not be moved! Always be outstanding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

Ephraim will be like a bird; what they value will fly away. They will not bear children– they will not enjoy pregnancy– they will not even conceive!Even if they raise their children, I will take away every last one of them. Woe to them! For I will turn away from them.Just as lion cubs are born predators, so Ephraim will bear his sons for slaughter.Give them, O LORD– what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry, and breasts that cannot nurse!

I will send the wild animals against you and they will bereave you of your children, annihilate your cattle, and diminish your population so that your roads will become deserted.

Your strength will be used up in vain, your land will not give its yield, and the trees of the land will not produce their fruit.

“ Bring the entire tithe into the storehouse so that there may be food in my temple. Test me in this matter,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ to see if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until there is no room for it all.

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.’God raised up his servant and sent him first to you, to bless you by turning each one of you from your iniquities.”
